now im not talking about games for preschoolers (such as sesemi street games or putt putt series)

i mean games like vexx or sonic or crash bandicoot etc

i mean come on theres nothing wrong with liking kids games i mean come on give me 2 good reasons why people soudnt play kids games at 16+

i mean whenever i say spongebob battle for bikini bottom is a surprisingly good platformer i get the piss taken out of me because of the source material is based on i mean come on just because its aimed for kids doesn't mean its bad for older gamers aswell

just because the audience for these games are kids doesn't mean there strictly for kids these games are rated E for everyone for a reason you know

and some of my favorite games are aimed for kids

    klonoa door to phantomile

    spyro trilogy

    sonic series

    just to name a few

i wish people would let others like what they want its not like were playing preschool games or anything so why cant we like games aimed for a younger audience

The trick is just to ignore your critics.

I collect Sonic the Hedgehog stuff and I'm 28, people laugh when they see comics and figures all over the place but to me it's a connection to my youth, a healthy thing to have.

So I say play what you want and do what you want, never let people put you down for it. Their criticism is born ironically out of immaturity.

No. 1 rule is to not give a fuck what others think about your preferences. Enjoy, what you enjoy. Quite simple.

Also the "games for kids" stigma might not be as wide spread as you think, maybe in your circle of friends but not world wide. Look at Angry Birds...I mean really look at it, in design it's fairly childish but yet I see 40+ year old men and women playing it and talking about it.

well, atleast you dont have a brother that sees your action figures from whatever game (xenosaga in my case) and asks you "do you collect these dolls?"

Well I love the kid games, I play a lot the Spongebob ones, Sonic, Spyro, for the wii there are a lot of kids games that I like just like Deblob 1 and 2, Boomblox, etc. I have Skylanders both games with their figures. I dont find anything wrong with that especially when I playing with my kid.

I'm all too familiar with this scenario in games and other things too.

I'm a brony and I don't give a fuck if you think it's childish or not. If you're a hater, go take the hate elsewhere.

That's how I operate. No. 1 rule: If you like it and many think it's childish, don't give a fuck about what they think. If it's a friend tearing you down, then they're not a very good friend to begin with.

    ^^

On the flip side, there is such a thing as 'normal' and 'abnormal'.
Despite what the internet tells you, there is such a thing as creepy and unusual.

You like the same show as young girls? You're close to a line, buy you haven't crossed it yet.

There isn't anything wrong with that. I am 17 (Senior in High School) and I wear a Classic Sonic hat every other day (the other hat is an NES controller) and I wear shirts with Mario on it. OH, and I take a GG, GBC, GB BOY COLOUR (GBC clone), GBA SP, GBM, DS, and 3DS with me every day.

I don't know about your life, but for me most people don't care. Those that do (point it out) are usually people who don't have anything that defines themselves and are just looking for a way to (pathetically) grab attention.
Just don't let it bother you, and they won't bother you about it.

P.S. You have a good taste in platformers.

16-year-olds are pretty much children anyway.

There will be some social stigma for people who do things that aren't considered part of what is "normal" for that specific person be them 30 year old male watching shows intended for little girls or 25 year old women who get buzz cuts and drive pick-up trucks.

Quite frankly, as long as you aren't hurting yourself or anyone else I couldn't give a damn what games you play or don't play.

Hahaha, I know someone who collects those things. I've always called them animes since that's where they are from!

In my opinion it is definitely possible to be thinking a little too far out of the square.
There's in the square, there's out of the square and then there's MLP! :wink-new:

    Well put APE!

I have to agree with how APE put it - provided that there's no harm to yourself or to others in regards to your interest - then don't give a shit in regard to what other things.

You enjoy playing Spyro? I enjoy playing Spyro myself. Hell, I just played the absolute shit out of Spyro 3 PS1 the other night and a couple of nights ago I restarted Pokemon HeartGold on my DS out of boredom and I felt like playing something I enjoyed as a kid but even I have to admit - I do get a little tired of serious/grim/dark/mature games and want something lighthearted and I have to say after going back and replaying the Spryo games - you can start to appreciate some of the humor when you get a bit older as not all of it is actually intended for a younger audience. (Kind of like a few select "kid's cartoons" which are anything but when you re-watch them a few years down the track).

If someone gives you shit for whatever you're playing, tell them to fuck off as there's no law against you playing games that are classified typically G/PG that may be aimed or censored for a younger target audience because in essence those games are practically all audience type titles regardless.

I think the overall public opinion about videogames has changed over the past 10 or 20 years. Throughout the 80s and much of the 90s, people saw videogames as a medium for kids. Even violent games like Mortal Kombat were aimed towards children. But it became apparent pretty quickly that adults can enjoy games too. I think the stereotype has shifted from being about kids, to thinking that people who are really into videogames are stoners or people in their 20s/30s living in their parents' basement. An improvement? Maybe not. But it's a change, at least.
