As per thread title, what's the deal with PS-IO nowdays? Anyone here has it? Do you recommend it?

I can't find much info on this tbh - other than the official site and the problematic games list (a bummer because lots of good ones are there) and I am currently scanning it's official forum - would prefer though some honest oppinions here.

    TIA!

dont have one but imo not worth it. you can get a modchip and burn all usa games for even less.

yeah sure , this is known for at least 20years now... I am more interested on a review of PS-IO rather than alternatives :)

It's great if you want to play games off a sd card instead of disc's. Not all games work yet. You can also install a modchip and play the games that dont work that way. I installed a psio for someone and got a chance to test it. Its a pretty cool mod and to me worth buying if your into that sort of thing.

My understanding is it works well and does what it said it would do, but the whole soldering part still bothers people as it had initially (I think) set out to be a simple plug and play device.

I've heard it's good but people have been bothered by the price mixed with the whole chip part.

This is my understanding, there's room for being wrong on this coming from me.

It's impossible to make it work plug and play. It works by replacing the CD-ROM drive interface and taking it's place. For that to work you need to redirect the chip selection signal for the CD-ROM hardware into the PSIO cart. That's the reason for the required internal mod.

I want to get one but so far they haven't been available in large enough numbers for me to get one. It would be handy for developing some homebrew and being able to test without burning a million CD-Rs. And ofcourse for playing random ISOs. Or for testing when hacking games.

Not gonna lie-I'm kinda annoyed at still not having one. I donated to the development of PSIO years ago and I still haven't been able to get one.

Well ordering window was open today for a few minutes. Lasted at least one hour to what I understood from their forums.

I got one on the last batch. Still waiting though, but I do have a DHL tracking #. Hopefully this project continues on, sounds like Shadow is behind it 100% and cybyn not so much. Hopefully they get there differences worked out.

I could get one in the second batch.
Really interesting device, despite the games not working. As citrus3000psi said, Shadow is now getting the whole project, and i hope it'll help to move it further. I could spend a few hours with Shadow on IRC (chichat and tech related), he seems to be a really good guy.
An dchoosing your game through a menu on your PSX has no price ;)

Because of the whole thing about cybdyn kicked out? To be honest, it was kind of predictable, and not because of cybdyn's way of handling "the business".
