It sounds interesting but the price given the compatibility issues = no go for me. Hoping it improves drastically or there ends up being something else that hits the market that's better. USB cdrom replacement maybe? Watching and waiting :)

I suspect you'll be waiting a long time, but PSIO is way too expensive. It costs more than a 3.55 PS3, which will allow you to play PS1 games from usb/network/hd using a wireless controller.

Don't remember the exact details, I was given a link which isn't available anymore. Stuff about the PSIO firmware being locked by cybdyn to prevent Shadow from kicking him out, then cybdyn got the boot or something because he'd want a slice in terms of royalty per piece iirc, new people working on a new firmware, possibly starting from scratch. cybdyn can probably explain this better than me, I'm biased on the whole thing anyway.

    "shadow"

After all the support I actually gave Haunted on here, he's basically done nothing in the project. Always bites the hands that feed him sadly.

Basically don't support this crap, it was a flop from day 1.

The price is not that terrible come on... ~105eur shipped, how much did anyone expect this to be? 15eur?
No idea about cybdyn stuff but his nick is still plastered in everything at the ps-io site as far as I can tell

Maybe Cybdyn stands for the australian company named Cybdyn Systems created and owned solely by Haunted and not for cybdyn the former developer.

No, I wouldn't expect it to be 15 euro. But there is a big difference between 15 and 105 euros and a 3.55 PS3 is better value for money.

I wasn't aware there was a bunch of drama behind it. Either way I missed them being available again. So either they make so few or a fair number of people out there want one.

Been drama since he came here spouting about things he had no clue about.

Only reason it even exists is because of cybdyn

The fact that it isn't plug and play solution, like it was planned, it's their biggest problem. The little switch board requires soldering skills most people don't have.

So the final price, including the install, makes it too expensive (in my opinion). Anyway, i hope they can still make these for people interested and be able to make new revisions and updates.

I don't know anything about the drama behind this device nor do I care. Saying that I would still buy one if I enjoyed playing ps-1 games on the original console.

The drama is actually relevant in this case: the hardware isn't 100% compatible and it seems like it won't be updated for a long while (if ever) because of said drama.

Shadow erased the topic where there were more information about the schism between him and cybdyn.

I really doubt it can reach 100% compatibility.

Right, so Shadow basically got Cybdyn to do all the hard work then got greedy and kicked him off the project?
Shadow is still acting like a spoilt brat then

I read alot of the back and forth between cybdyn and shadow before the thread change. It pretty much boiled down to this:

Cybdyn said something like "PSIO was selling good so why make updated firmware?" He also said that he hadn't been paid for units currently selling.

Shadow never really argued that he had paid Cybdyn. But he never said he was going to pay him. He spouted that he was doing all the work with assembly/selling/menu updates and Cybdyn hadn't done anything in the last six months.

I think both parties saw what was coming, and which is why Shadow hadn't paid and why Cybdyn hadn't given the original firmware to Shadow.

Found a page in google cache, not complete though:

Thanks for that, interesting read even if we only got a bit of it.

I will stand by my original statement, Shadow is a spoilt brat who has no idea how to treat people and has zero business acumen, Cybdyn has done pretty much all the work and has not been paid what he is owed, if I was him I would also tell Shadow where to shove it as well, the assembling that Shadow is doing could be done by any (barely) trained monkey, however developing the actual PSIO sounds like it was Cybdyn doing all the hard work while the little kid made a website and forum to show off his l33t skills!
