Lately I'm starting to notice a good deal of comments that are very Wii negative. Why is this the case?

Personally i think the Wii has still a very great lifecycle ahead of it. I mean I love my 360, but my Wii offers a totally different experience. In fact a pretty good line-up is coming

    Super Mario Galaxy
Eternity's Child (Awesomely beautiful 2D platformer) video here
    Geometry Wars: Galaxies
    Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
    Nights 2
    Super Smash Bros. Brawl
    No More Heroes

I'm also excited about the upcoming Wii Ware releases (Online Dr. MARIO!) and of course the potential of more import localized games (HECK COME ON WE FINALLY GOT SIN & PUNISHMENT)

These games are more then enough to tide me over and this only touches the surface. Honestly I could care less about "graphical power", when a game looks and feels good its good enough for me.

So I don't get all the recent hating.

Me personaly (with some dev info), I think the wii as a general system can be nice but wii has become this fad which is total BS. The remote it self is shit (tech wise). Other then the lack of a pointer, PS3 accelleromitors are superior to the shit ones in wii. Yet since PS3 focus is not on making quick buck games, nobody really looks at it in that light.

Second with the wii as a fad, nintendo is getting away with over charging gamers for the same stuff. Wii games do not warent the $50 price range (with few exceptions) when most of the shit is normal ps2/gcn games just insted of pressing A you swing. Also the VC is a total rip off but wii fans keep asking for the continue rape of their wallet. You're paying $9 ***king dollars for shit neogeo games with no online that XBLA is getting for $5 with full online play. Look even genesis games, $8 streets of rage on wii with nothing vs $5 streets of rage on XBLA with full online support.

Another thing that anoys me are devs seeing the wii's sucesss and are rushing to put out what ever crap they can come up with which just destroys the wii experience even more.

I know i seem bitter but i've had a wii, i'm now even working on a freaking wii game (switching to psp soon, yay). Wii gamers keep getting excited for the same **** on every previous nintendo system (yeah i know, still good games) and toute innovation when the wii experience does not exsist outside of the rip off wii sports tech demo (yes, you're paying for that shit, its not free. Its why the Wii is $250 and not $200).

Meh i am tired of rambling on.

Pretty much what Subbie said, all the killer titles are always "out soon" as it stands now, there's little to make it anything other than a weak second console, if anyone other than Nintendo released it, it would already be in the bargain bin. It's like I said about the DS, it's not the product, it's the company, people follow Nintendo blindly offering their cash for any old shit they pump out.

Well $50 is the going rate for games. Personally I agree about the whole "Innovation thing" Wii is not that innovative, but I think nintendo has pumped out great games each system and that's why we buy there systems.

I bought a Wii not to "Jump on the boat" but, because I loved my gamecube everything from Super Mario Sunshine to Pikimin really got me.

Sure Nintendo will release killer games during the early days and offer sparse releases thoughout the lifecycle...But, I don't think this is them being a-holes or something I just think it has to do with the amount of creative genious one company can put out.

The concept of super mario galaxy has been worked on ever seen the days of the Mario 128 demo and it takes time to develop software as you know.
And of course once a title is done and perfected you want to throw it out the door so it can have as long of a sales lifetime as possible. I am a bit bitter about Zelda TP being held for Wii, but this is the exception.

Other then that I think the software library is good.

Your right that if this wasn't a nintendo system it would be worthless, as its technically underpowered. But, still the fact that it has got a future of some good exculsive titles, and this alone makes it worth the asking price. Heck Super Mario Galaxy makes it worth the asking price.

In addition, I've gotten the feeling that some 3rd parties indeed will be making some quality games for Wii to an extent that was never realized on gamecube. So, I'm hoping that in the end 3rd parties will make this system be a case where indeed the "killer apps" aren't all released at the begining. I think the Wii was a neccesary move to get them back into the console wars as a contenders to no longer build "nintendo software only consoles".

As for VC, well I don't buy anything unless it warrants the price of asking, this means N64 games and the games nintendo has made import friendly (Sin and Punishment).

I do admit that I bought streets of rage on Wii as a exception. However, I really had the xbox live genesis emulation, so I would rather play SoR not online and properly.

As for us being excited for the "same old #$@#"" well I think that can be applied to every console. In fact I do think that nintendo at least is trying something a little different. Super Mario galaxy, should at least be "fresh". Has there ever been a system that has consistently pumped out innovative games? Innovative and "Fresh" games are few and far btwn on every system imo.

I also don't agree that wii is a fad. A fad means that everyone goes to the system then gives up on it. While I think some gamers who just came to Wii never playing games before may tire of it, I definitely think that there is a hardcore nintendo audience on the system just like there was on the Cube. So, if those mainstream gamers bail out, its not like the hardcore have been lost.

For me the Wii is like the DS. Gimmicky system with few good uses for the gimmick. Nintendo has an excellent marketing department and a good number of die-hard loyal fanboys though. And the biggest luck they've had: creating Wii sports tennis. Im convinced this app sold 3/4 of the consoles out. Apart from low quality PS2 ports its about all the system has going for it. (Yes i've owned a Wii, and i got rid of it after trying out a few dozen games on it. Found out Wii sports was the only good title...)

How long have you been console gaming? If all your childhood favorites lost their charm you'd be mad too.

Also IMO Eternity's Child looks like a shit Flash game. Hires 2D, especially in this case, is an excuse for developers to make a shitty 8-bit styled game and sell it on "artistic" merits.

I also can't say I'm looking forward to another Smash Bros. Smash Bros was a good game, for N64, when Pokemon was still cool. Hint: now it's not, neither is Smash Bros, it's tired and old and if you still play it you're probably like 9 and your parents won't let you play Teen rated fighters. IMO it's also totally NOT cool that Sonic is in the game, I'm sure that the 16-bit Mario and Sonics are rolling over in their graves.

I long for the days of Sega they not Nintendo had the best first party software and look what's happend to them now........

I've thought about getting a wii but Sonic in Brawl, Secret Rings a Half assed Nights remake that just pretty and done by Sega's B-team.....no

To quote a Manager at a gamestop "I'll stick with a real system like the PS2 or 360"

Not that the PS3 has alot to offer either and to date the 360s best games have been on live arcade.

I like Eternitys Child because the art does look amazing, and actually I was familar with Luc Bernard's art (I'm not a art enthusist, a family friend likes his art and owned a painting in his house). So I'm excited to see what he can do with this game.

And the Smash Bros. Series is still fun... at least it is to me and alot of others.
Imo Nintendo has done a great job of keeping their franchises alive and they have done a great job of keeping all their franchises alive and well. Indeed Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most wanted titles on Wii.

You can't say nintendo has done a bad job with its franchises

I look back at my gaming childhood and when I think of all my favorites characters and games that have been fubar (Crash Bandicoot, Sonic, Bubsy, Tony Hawk, Megaman etc) it makes me cringe.

EDIT: Btw Megaman has definitely some good games spread throughout its history... but, its really turned into one of those hit or miss franchises.

When I was a kid I was all about mega man.

    The Franchise died with X8

Now we have the ZX bullshit, and the Strat RPG bullshit.

Where's our Mega man OG storyline closure?

    Nitrosoxide,
Truthfuly the Wii could have just been the gamecube with zero motion controlls and all the games people are hyped and excited about would be the same damn thing (Mario, zelda, smash bros, mario kart). Thies games were ****ing great long before wii/motion controlls. People's beef with the wii is the wii it self and not nintendo games. We're being screamed innovation at when there is no innovative game. It's the same stuff and most are fine with that.

I might get a wii again years later but purely just to play a few older games.

The wii will ultimately be like the DS for a while. The DS at the start was piss anoying since everybody forced shit touch screen controlls insted of just standard controlls with a little extra via touch (which is what everybody now does and it's resulted in far better DS software).

Corrected your statement for you. ;)

X5-x8 were ok but far from being as great as everything prior to them.

It's sad MM X remake on psp did so poorly. It could have been a massive step in the right direction for the series.

Bioshock, Gears of War, and Halo 3 are not on Live Arcade. Neither is the Orange Box, Forza 2, or Oblivion. Assasin's Creed, Fable 2 and Mass Effect won't be on Live Arcade either. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Ninja Gaiden 2 or Virtua Fighter 5 will not be downloadable off of Live Arcade.

In my opinion, the Wii is far from dead. Sure, there are a few stinkers out there (From what I understand, Nintendo doesn't have quality control like Sony and Microsoft does, which is why you see shovelware games on the system), but I have gotten quite a bit of enjoyment out of it. In the last year, I have played:

    -Twilight Princess
    -Trauma Center: Second Opinion
    -Sonic and the Secret Rings
    -Super Paper Mario
    -Pokemon Battle Revolution
    -Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
    -Metroid Prime 3

Not to mention we still have Super Mario Galaxy, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, and NiGHTS: Journey Into Dreams coming out this year, and the Wii version of Okami, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and the Wii Mario Kart in Spring-Summer 2008. I didn't even include some of the many virtual console games I downloaded and enjoyed.

Sure, many of the games I posted are either ports of old GCN titles, cancelled GCN titles, or sequels using similar engines to older games, but they are still fun. You want a dead console? Try the PS3. I only bought two games for it:

    -Resistance: Fall of Man
    -Ninja Gaiden Sigma

as well as Tekken and Crash Bandicoot off the Playstation store. You might complain that the virtual console is nothing but ROMs, but the selection is at least decent. The playstation store rarely gets updated with demos, old Playstation games, or even trailers. About the only game I am looking forward to is the new Ratchet and Clank.

I admit that Nintendo did do a half-ass job on the Wii by not at least supporting 720p or a true widescreen solution (Some games go into full widescreen like Twilight Princess or Sonic and the Secret Rings, while others have black bars on them like Metroid Prime 3). That, and I think using SD cards without the option of using it as a storage solution without having to delete or transfer stuff was a poor choice (It really needs a hard drive, badly). However, I have hopes that Nintendo can at least do a better job then Sony of having a game every few months that is worth playing. Hell, they have done a excellent job for just launching when compared to the dismal showings of the PS3.

Well this you are definitely right about....

But, companies have been forcing new consoles upon us since the dawn of time when they could have simply given us a add on. But, it just doesn't work... the past has proven this. Companys release consoles for the sake of competition.

And in nintendos case continuing the gamecube wouldn't have been successful had it been continued. I'm sure they would've wanted to sell as many cube units as Wii Units, but it didn't happen, which is another reason a new system was needed.

Would you have perfered the Wii's current design to simply have been an alternative SKU? With additions built in...

And have had nintendo sell the Wiimote for Gamecube for those interested in it? Honestly I think the Wiimote would have just ended up as a one or two game thing supported by the games that make great use of it and then be abandoned. Personally having to buy a expensive peripheral only having the company abandon it has just pissed me off way to many times. .

I bought a 32x for @#!2 sakes... Believe me I do wish companies would release expansions, and I would've liked to have seen the 64DD succeed. Not to mention the contless crap I've bought that only is compabitle with 1-2 games.

Seaman Microphone, N64 transfer Pak, N64 expansion pak, Gamecube microphone, e-Reader, That 6 button Genesis Controller.

Yes the Samba de Amigo Maraccas rock as does some other one trick ponies. But, they still are one trick ponies and a guy can't own a hundred ponies. This is why I'm excited for Samba de Amigo on Wii. As finally people can actually afford this game and do proper multiplayer.

Also, multitaps are another great example. It was a great innovation, but really only bomberman and sports games used it...Plus, 4 player modes seemed to be added more or less as a afterthought.

This is a big reason why I like the Wii not being a gamecube add on... It just wouldn't have worked on a scale to convince develop using them as proven by the numerous past failures.

They're still selling but I can't remember anything great by Nintendo since Ocarina of Time, nearly a DECADE ago.
IMO they've done a bad job with practically all of their franchises they've brought back! Mario went downhill starting at Mario 64 which was practically a tech demo and not a Mario game. Mario Sunshine on the other hand was just plain SHIT, Mario Kart DD was SHIT, Star Fox after SF64 is now SHIT, Metroid games after Metroid 3 are all SHIT, all Zelda after OOT are all SHIT (I haven't played TP yet though), Kirby after Kirby's Dreamland 2 are all SHIT, Donkey Kong after DKC3 are all SHIT, Excitebike 64 was SHIT, Pokemon after Silver/Gold is SHIT.

I say shit in that they're average/mediocre/even maybe slightly above average games but do not reflect the genius or spirit of their predecessors at all.

Yup, IMO Crash Bandicoot was shit after Wrath of Cortex, Sonic was shit starting at Sonic 3D (Sonic Adventure has Mario 64 syndrome), Bubsy (and Earthworm Jim, Gex etc) are all shit in 3D, Tony Hawk was shit after THPS2, Megaman was shit after MMX4!

X8?! For me MM died on the release of X5 though I could see it coming since X3.

You mean people wouldn't have been stupid enough to just buy the Wiimote, but they would be stupid enough to buy a whole new console to play GameCube games with a few features bolted on for the controller.

    Let's look at Jason's list:

    -Twilight Princess GameCube game+
-Trauma Center: Second Opinion DS game+
    -Sonic and the Secret Rings
    -Super Paper Mario GameCube game+
    -Pokemon Battle Revolution
-Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition GameCube game+
    -Metroid Prime 3 GameCube game+

People are buying the same damn games they bought 2 years ago on the GameCube again just to use a new bloody controller, and they praise Nintendo for it FFS!

It's like a joke on society and everyone is lined up with their wallets open.

Christ, it's like 1987 again and everyone thinking it's cool to wear luminous coloured socks!

Its true that the Wii is pretty much Gamecube 1.5 with waggle controls, although the same can be said of the other consoles. The majority of 360 games are PC ports, or games that will eventually become PC ports, which will eventually be ported over to the PS3 in a craptastic manner. I mean, if you look at it this way:

    PC: Hearty Meal 'o Plenty
    360: Scraps of PC gaming
PS3: Bare Bones of PC gaming salvaged from the 360, as well as scraps of 360 games
Wii: Leftovers from your last Thanksgiving meal of PS2/GCN games that gave you indigestion

Lets face it, the barrier between ports and exclusives is pretty much gone.

Prime 3 was definitely a game devloped entirely with the Wii in mind. Indeed I remeber a interview that stated that the nunchunk addition was added because of a request by the prime 3 developers in the planning stage of the game. So it was definitely made with wii in mind.

Throughout history launch games tend to suffer from what you are describing. The 360 really argueablly didn't get a "Next-gen" game till gears of war.

    100% agree on Pokemon...

I loved Star Fox Adventures actually...it wasn't a star fox game per say, but I enjoyed it alot. But, the series definitely needs a good game...your right.

Kirby I would argue has been more of a hit or miss series. As Canvas Curse was quite good. But, yeh nothing has surpassed kirbys dreamland 2 imo.

Donkey Kong actually seems to be the most "innovative" of all the franchises, and while hit or miss the variations of games with the character have been fun.

Diddy Kong Racing, DK 64, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat , DK vs. Mario were solid games imo and in the opinion of reviews and gamers. This are "innovative" argueable b/c they each did something different.

I also hated Mario Kart DD, but that doesn't mean the franchise sucks now. Both the releases for the GBA and DS were solid games and quite loved. Indeed I bought a GBA back in the day for Super Circuit. So one miss out of 2 hits.

As for Zelda, Metroid, Mario... univerally the new games have been acclaimed and loved by critics and fans alike.

And your forgetting Pikmin, F-Zero, and Animal Crossing

Alot of hate for X8...it's hard yeah but really took the X series and the Mega man Series as a whole back to it's roots.

X7 was just strange and X6 is the only game I ever got a migraine playing.

Capcom might want to look into bringing the legends series to Wii.

It's all a matter of perspective. Marketing's job is to set perspective actually, so you can all stop your bitching about "Oh why does the Wii sell so good while it's crap".

The N64 had awesome games, yet many people still bought the PSX. To this day, I have enjoyed my Saturn and N64 more than my PS1, but I do accept that many people found fun in the PS1. So, you should too, suck it up and accept that the Wii - although not of your personal taste - does offer fun to its users and most of all reliability compared to the 360 (I own a 360 as well, along with Gears of War, Halo 3 and some other games).

If one is to consider the Wii's game line-up weak, then the PS3's game line-up is non-existant.

I agree that good things are comming soon to the Wii, as I ve found myself limited to relatively few titles so far that are worth my attention (mostly first/second party games), but I have yet to find a single PS3 game worth spending 600 USD + whatever the game costs.

So, next time that you're thinking of complaining about the Wii, just take a moment and re-think your position if you happen to be a PS3 supporter.

Similarly, the PS2 was over-rated. The graphics on most games were shit (even the high-end ones compared to XBOX and GC games many times) and the controller is such a pain in the ass - yet people blindly bought PS2s until the install-base was so large that developers actually "happenned" to make some good games for the platform.

Make no mistake - the PS2 wasn't a Dreamcast (where 3 out of 5 games was as addictive as crack). The PS2 was and is in my view a fairly mediocre platform that's just backed up by statistical probability that "if you have so many games in the library, some are bound to be good". The ratio is nowhere near even the n64's number of games/quality and surely nowhere near the DC's.

As such, the Wii has a better chance than the PS2. It has already demonstrated a few fun titles, compared to the boring first year of the PS2's release.

    any comments? =)
