For me giving my Gamecube more love is my current focus but also the unplayed hidden gems on everything else I have. I'm leaning towards getting a Famicom for my self for my birthday so Famicom collecting is in my future. But how about you guys? What are you buying up before the gamepocalpyse?

Right now I'm focusing on my DC collection, as I'm by far the closest to a complete DC collection than any other system, and it would be a nice thing to do.

I tired for a complete US Dreamcast set then I realized there are far more shitty US Dreamcast games than amazing ones. I'm just working on the good ones.

My ongoing focus is all English translated JRPGs on US or European consoles and any shmups on any US or Japanese consoles.

Xbox collection, bet none of you figured that one out. As of right now I'm focusing on racing titles for the system.

I chop and change as the market changes.

I've found sometimes Sega stuff skyrockets, then plummets - then Nintendo does the same. Trying to go against that curve so it doesn't cost as much.

My SMS collection is closest to complete as I like, then MegaDrive. Just depends on the cycle though and if I can catch the right bulk lot at the right time or that one loose item I am chasing.

Whatever floats my way. I wish I could get more SNES games, but they are more popular in my area than NES games. My NES collection has grown, managing to get a cheap copy of SMB2.
My largest collection is definitely my PS2, thanks to Gamestops 75% off sale.

was amiga stuff, til it became impossible to source vital parts.
now, it's just about anything last generation and beyond. (360 and ps3 is still present generation afaic, never mind the shit known as xbone and ps4)
no real direction, my tastes span a chunk of history, nothing present day, unless it's a freebie?!

My collection focus has always been playstation (all gens) dev related items, as well as unofficial software for these (ie. gamesharks and stuff); however now that there are import restrictions in my country I have no choice but to buy whatever I can find locally... so I am now focusing on growing my games collection.
Recently bought some PS3 games, but I'll see what I can find for "reasonable" price for PS1, PS2 and PSP as well (and no, PSN is not an option as I don't like DRM'd stuff)... the wishlist is way too long.

I'm also planning on getting other consoles (top of my list: Dreamcast), but I don't see it happening anytime soon due to the crazy figures people ask for in MercadoLibre (local eBay), starting at USD 300 for a used/yellowed DC.

I don't really have a focus. It's just whatever I want that I don't currently have. There are games I want for: Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, N64, PS1, PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox. I'm always going to game stores, so if I see something that looks cool for a reasonable price, I'll get it - even if it's not on my list. Money is kind of tight right now, so I've mostly been buying very cheap games.

As far as systems, I have pretty much everything I want, except I still want to get a 64DD and a Japanese Mega Drive. I could also use another Super Famicom, since the one I have is slightly yellowed.

I kinda hop from focus to focus; at the moment I'm focused on Gamecube. (More specifically, trying to get the rarer non-Club-Nintendo controllers ATM, like all-Clear and Starlight Gold.)

Right now my focus is to complete the US N64 set. I have 106/296 games. There is still a long way to go until I'm finished but I'm not in a big hurry. I just want to get the expensive games out of the way as soon as possible. I already have Sculptor's Cut so I don't need to worry about this one. I want to see if in July I can find a copy of Worms Armageddon.

Even though I'm going for the N64 set, I still buy games for other systems. My Gameboy collection is steadily growing and I buy a few games each month.
My Vita set is also growing and I want to reach the 100 games mark now in July.

In the future I may try to go for the US Dreamcast set but I'm still not sure about it.
In the meantime, I'm buying whatever I find interesting for the other consoles that I have.

Is it just me or is coming across DC games in the wild more rare than it used to be?

I go through the CD selection at thrift shops a few years ago, and there would be a few (mostly sports) DC games, now the only games I can find there are PS1.

I think right now the best system to collect for is the Gameboy The Hipster douchebags haven't gotten their claws on them yet to drive the prices up. Besides the Mega Man games there aren't too many over priced gameboy games. It's not what I'm zeroed in on but if you want to collect something older cheap, Gameboy is a good choice.

Pokemon games are still about $30-35 loose, it's ridiculous.

Lucky thing I got most of them new.

Pokemon anything lately has rocketed, it's because the generation of gamers are now older and want those games back. It's a usual cycle.

I collect Gameboy games since 2012 and I have already noticed a spike in prices since then. A lot of the higher end titles are really hard to find and very expensive. Spud's Adventure is one of the games that have a ridiculous price now, it's almost worse than Stadium Events. Other games I can't find CIB are Captain America, Spiderman 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 (the second game is also hard to find) and the Megaman games you've mentioned.

I think people are beginning to give up on collecting NES and SNES games and now are going into the N64/GB and a bit of the GC games. I don't think prices on these console will go down soon, they will only rise. That said, there are a lot of cheap Gameboy games to have, specially if you go for loose carts. I'm going for a CIB collection and it's been really nice to Tcollect these games. the Gameboy is one of the consoles that I like the most to collect games for because the boxes look very nice on the shelves, the games are cool and there are a lot of good games from good series for it but it's getting more and more expensive.

If you have a nice way to display your loose carts I would say it is a great way to start a collection instead of going for a CIB collection.

I don't have much of a direction at all right now. I'm like "I want a VR helmet" one random day, then go buy one. "Oh hey, that's a good price for a CDi, even though I can't think of any good games for it right now" - bought. I tend to grab (somewhat) rare peripherals and systems, but not care too much about getting a lot of games for each...
