The Rule of thumb is basically Pretend the Turbo doesn't even exist. There is no Trubographix 16 and the PC Engine was a Japan only system. It makes collecting that much less of a hassle.
Indeed. Plus if you don't think of the Turbo then you'll never have your eyes burnt by the worst box art in the history of gaming.
Yeah They really mismarketed it here. Probably the one thing I miss the most about having a functioning computer is Magic Engine. But I kept the roms and a few disc ISOs. If I can get a good deal on a coregraphix or a Duo then I'd be set. The ONLY PC Engine CD game I really want is Valis III so I'll grab that whenever I do. I can't even begin to explain just how much I love Valis III. On an unrelated note, anyone else collecting Black label US PS1 games? I got Street Fighter Alpha 3 yesterday and was horrified to see it was a greatest hits. Amazon gamble. (I have the Dreamcast version, I just prefer the PS1 world tour mode, and I can't at the moment afford the Saturn version)
Right now I am trying to focus on getting anything Game Boy Advance related. For some reason I just love the handheld and learning more about it.
I was on a gameboy advance kick over Christmas. Grabbed Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, F Zero forgot which of the 3, and the amazing Contra Advance. I'd like to get more now that I have a PS2 to Gamecube Converter.
Something worse than Master System "box art"? The only problem with that is that the Tubro has an adapter that'll play all the PC engine games, but they couldn't/didn't make one the other way around. And I know zero Japanese.
Unless you plan on playing Ys I don't really see this as a problem for such a Shmup and Platformer heavy system.
It is and there are fan translations of the Ys games floating around. PC Engine CD games are region free and if I'm not mistaken the Ys games were CD Rom based.
Let's pretend that turbographadshcpxh doesn't even exist! Ok now let's play the US version of Ys! oh wait They did as they could to bring good games to the US specially in the TTi era... it's crystal clear that the guys at TTI were trying to bring as many SCD games as humanly possible with a lower budget to the US, also trying to boost interest regarding US development (Loom, Madden DUO, Shadowgate, etc.) not to mention the games that didn't came to be because they ran out of $ (Macross, Star Parodier, etc.). They really didn't deserve backlash (compared to NEC that fed up everything and deserved the blame) considered they "ressurrected" the turbo for a year or two. If TTi didn't exist there would be only Fighting Street, Ys and Monster Lair on CD media to play in the US haha. Hell TTi even licensed Godzilla from Toho. tl;dr: there are good games on the US turbografx, some even exclusive to the region. And I probably missed the point of the GoH and Yakumo posts but whatever
Anyways since it happened between the last post and now. I just made a massive list of PS1 games on Amazon. PS1 get list http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1CTPZNEORXHVS/ref=topnav_lists_2 Saturn get list http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/H8MPO3D495BU/ref=topnav_lists_3 Am I missing anything?
Dead or Alive would be a decent JP Saturn game to get. Also if you're going to get SF: The Movie, why not buy the American version? You can get it for under $10, which is less than shipping would be from Japan.
The SP was excellent. Very portable and made the original look like a child's toy. The design has not aged much if at all.
I love the original GBA form factor, add in a backlight like the mods lately and it is perfect. Looking forward to getting one.
I own the US Saturn SF Movie but the Disc is in bad shape, it brings me back to the Saturn Menu on Swada's stage, So I'm going to get a replacement disc only copy, and then get the PS1 version to compare it to. Weird game to get two copies of but I have alot of duel copies. I also already have DOA1 on both PS1 and Saturn, the Only DOA game I don't have is DOA3 which is forever trapped in my dead XBOX that got sent out for recycling back in April.
Currently the focus has turned to Atari memorabilia. As always though i look for anything different, unusual and/or rare (as in legit rare, not L@@K RARE!!! items) for anything Atari. Apart from this, i'm always seeking to expand my ever growing GameCube collection and am still after a CIB Karateka on the Atari XEGS to complete my CIB XEGS collection as well as Primal Rage long box release for the Atari Jaguar CD to complete my CIB Jag CD library (already have a complete CIB Jag cart release collection - minus variants). As the current collecting focus has changed, so has my lust for collection most 'other' things retro, so i may finally have to start selling off other stuff in order to make room and fund the new focus.
That's a problem. Some people believe any 2600 game is rare. I've literally seen people post ET and Pac-Man calling them rare.
