Which generation of videogames do you prefers ? Do you prefers the old generation's videogames like sega saturn , nintendo 64 or the first playstation ? or the second generation , with the playstation 2 , gamecube or the first xbox ? or the third generation with the playstation 3 , xbox 360 and the nintendo Wii ?
who reset the generation tags? I seem to remember being alive and playing games before the psx, saturn, n64. I generally play games that interest me, regardless of the generation. I do miss alot of the gameplay elements missing in the current gen games however.
5th Gen for me. I still love playing and buying PSX games. RPG fan here. Let's not forget the N64, 64DD, Neo Geo CD, PC-FX. I'm still trying to find a Bandai Playdia
The 16-bit era and partially the 32-bit era (up until about 1996-7, when badly aged 3D graphics with crappy gameplay started to dominate the market, example: Tomb Raider) were the last eras of video games that still had that "pick up & play" fun/arcade gameplay that I like in games. That being said, in a lot of ways video games are better now than ever before, I just don't like the convoluted control schemes a lot of games have today, or the amount of time you need to put into them to start having fun.
I started off with a Commodore 64 and worked my way up the ranks but the N64 + Dreamcast are my personal all time greats. I only really retrospectvely collected for Dreamcast though. Gaming has gone downhill since IMO. Ever since someone though it was a good idea to grab a 6yo kid, put a mic in their hand and get them online gaming has been ruined *cough* xbox live *cough* Even with mute you can't mute them all. Even if you hide from their voice their in-game antics can spoil the fun. Oh well... at least hardly anyone on PlaySation Network has a mic. It is sad as it means less co-operation but great in that it means less kids, retards and retarded kids annoying me in one form at least =/ I miss playing split screen/same screen co-op and/or deathmatch though. A lot of the experience is lost online, even in private lobbies with cameras and mics =/
Mega Drive without a doubt. It's what I grew up with. That, WWF, Gladiators and fried chicken. All I did til I was 5 pretty much then got into PC based gaming.
well someone is admitting to being a young-in if Psx/Saturn/N64 counts as old generation. While there is a system and a game I loved from almost every generation, I think in general I still loved the 8bit & 16bit era equally. Nothing like the days when Disney + Capcom = A game you should own.
PSX is what I play the most of! 32-bit gaming all the way, and then it would have to be PS3, but not nearly as much as my PSX. -Disjaukifa
32-/64-Bit was probably the worst era ever, except for the fact that they could bring back some of the 8-/16-Bit 2D goodies in better quality (e.g. faithful arcade ports). All the 3D stuff was one big eyecancer giving nightmare at that time. The DC was the first console which made 3D enjoyable.
I'd disagree, I liked many of the 3d games of the time, however it depends on the console and games. Also I just thought the stories were better, the gameplay was better, yeah the graphics weren't uber great, but games were fantastic. In another 3 generations, the PS3/Xbox 360 graphics will be considered poor as well. -Disjaukifa
Blast Corps. Banjo Kazooie. Goldeneye. Lylat Wars. Ocarina of Time. Perfect Dark. Rainbow Six. Rogue Squadron. Turok 2. Need I go on? 3D looked shitty right up through to 32-bit. N64 did an ok job. I don't think the Dreamcast made 3D any more enjoyable though it was the first to not just do it but do it well.
8/16 bit for simplicity and some great music. 32 bit for some great games, though the demise of the Saturn (which I owned) to that of the Playstation (which everyone else at school owned) left a bitter taste in my mouth. The Dreamcast was the first console I had where I could actually buy games frequently with money from my part time job, and the 4 controller ports meant that party games and general co-op games were great fun. Again, the death of the DC whilst the PS2 just engulfed all gaming still hurts. I've never actually played a PS2, which probably sounds quite retarded. I was at uni when they were super popular and hardly gamed at all. I owned both an XBOX360 and PS3 in the UK and now I am in Japan I just grabbed myself a PS3. I don't really feel much for it at all though. Great for watching media-related things and I enjoy the games I do play, and they look great... but nothing can ever replace all the nostalgia I have with the old systems. Quite sad to think of it like that, but I guess I've just grown older?
