The era that the Neo Geo rocked ... games like Samurai Shodown, Art Of Fighting 2, Metal Slug, King OF Fighters were SHOCKING back in the days ... today nothing really impresses me that much
I like the way you think! I always try to imagine if I hadn't grown up with the SNES if I would still love it only finding out about in during this generation of systems. I think I would though, but the nostalgia factor is supreme.
I like to look of handdrawn sprites, and simple gameplay - thats why a fav 8bit and 16 bit system more than current generation consoles. ... but most of the time, I just grab my PS2 joypad and start gaming with the PS2, cause it works and sounds better than the old-school games. And games are up to date. ... i still like my 8bit games a lot more, but for playing - i prefer current gen. :crying:
 You are true. I am a sucker for cheap games. I will not invest in current gen systems cause of the prices. So, I am always one generation behind to save money. I wish I had an Asian Xbox 360, but just to play the arcade ports of those shmups. :crying:
I would have say the 16-Bit era I simply adored my SNES, games like SSFII-Turbo, Super Metroid, Mario Kart, F-Zero etc etc would have to be one of my favs of all time, did anyone else purchase the big box special edition set for SSFII-Turbo and Super Metriod? I then filed for a divorce with my SNES and got engaged to the Commodore Amiga 600, games like Chaos Engine and The Secret of Monkey Island brings back child-hood memories just wish I could turn back the hands of time.
I think maybe 99% of the forum share this sentiment. I may be wrong... but gaming just isn't how it was when I was 13 years old. No matter what system... it's all so magical. No bills to pay... no consoles to purchase... just be good and wish each Christmas...
Haha spot on my thoughts exactly, I'm glad we're on the same wave-length, not a worry in the world! Those were the days the good old 90's! Tuning into Channel-4 watching GamesMaster for any tips and cheats "GamesMaster, I'm stuck on Level 15 on Super Mario World for the SNES, I can't get past the ghosts, please help me GamesMaster?" "Well before you enter the door press A, B, Up, Down, L and R and let the magic begin, now be gone worthless one!"
GamesMaster was good, but Games World on Sky 1 was better. On 5 nights a week, used to set the video recorder in case I was late home from work and watch them all back to back on a Saturday afternoon with my little lad, happy times
Indeed. Gaming was just an explosion of ideas, some brilliant, some truly shocking. Nostalgia for those times permits me to sit through games like Rebel Assault and Night Trap for the MCD and love every minute of them. Yeah they're awful but you can just feel the excitement echoing through the title and remember back to a time when a kiosk showing these titles in a store would have turned heads. Video on a CD...amazing stuff. Skip forwards a few years to around '95 onwards and if something was in 3D I'd play it. I find crude 3D graphics far more engaging as like 2D games they still engage the imagination, what the developer struggles to show due to technology limitation is left to your imagination to fill in the blanks and expand the world in any way you choose. I watched LOTR before reading the books and I couldn't get the character voices and actor appearances out of my head whilst doing so, the fantasy was not my own. Modern games have a similar effect, the extreme details tells you what the game is and how it should be perceived. I've never liked that.
Let me tell you about my childhood. (97-2001 was the best time for me.) Thursday was comic day. For the £1 pocket money I got I got both Beano AND Dandy. Saturday night was the best night. We would go to asda and buy SFC and Curly Chips. We used to have them cooked just in time for the good saturday night telly came on. When that ended and we were full we then used to play sonic 3 + Knuckles until about midnight then goto sleep. Mix wrestling and cartoons in there through out the week and you have my favourite time That was the best time for me. Living carefree and just reading comics , watching tv and playing video games. No girls, bills or future to worry about.
The 8-32 bit days but i love the ps2 and dreamcast though. as for the new consoles i think the sporting simulation are getting better and better but i don't have much time for ps3 and 360 really.
I like the Space War era, with those oscilloscopes and shit. Oh right that was like 30 years before I was even born... Anyways, I had the most fun during the 16bits, so it's imprinted on my memory as an age of amazing stuff, great innovations and true classics. Pretty much everything we have today was created back then: real-time 3D (FX, SVP and Model1&2) online gaming (XBAND) and Download-on-Demand (Sega Channel) Not that there's nothing to play anymore, games of today really put those oldies to shame, but still it's not the same. I still like gaming today, just like I like cars even though these days most of the driving is being done by computers and soon even changing gears will be a memory now that even econoboxes like the Fiesta have dualclutch boxes. Still cool, but not the same.
Haha I remember Games World, they showed a lot of games from the Neo Geo I think I might write to Sky1 asking for more gaming shows instead of broadcasting House and Bones. I remember that fat kid who was really good with games I think he was the star of the show lol. What was that games program called that used to come on Bravo, speaking about Bravo what ever happened to that channel:shrug: Do remember the recent Gameville also on Sky1?
''That fat kid'' was Big Boy Barry, who had a show on Tuesday nights called 'Barry's Joypad'. His favourite food was deep fried sausages in custard if memory serves and he ended up working for a peripheral maker like Interact or someone similar. I'd love to see a few of those eps again, especially the 1 on 1 face offs with Bob Mills shouting encouragement and Tim Boone from Nintendo magazine going off his tits screaming ''Luigi's powered up again!!!!!!!!'' during the Mario Kart challenges. Great great show, sadly missed. Watching some dopey kid trying to cut the maidens hair in Heimdall only for him to keep twatting her in the head with axe after axe was comedy gold I think you're talking about 'When Games Attack' with Dominik Diamond. Another good show that didn't take itself too seriously. I liked 'Thumb Bandits' that was on Channel 4 too, thought it was much better than 'Bits'. As for Bravo disappearing it was apparently something to do with Virgin Media and them wanting to concentrate on more profitable channels like the Living and Challenge TV brands. Vaguely. I had to google it and only realized I'd seen it when it mentioned The Guru who gave tips out a la The Gamesmistress or Gamesmaster. Todays shows are shit by comparison, every game reviewed gets an 85% + score because they have to pander to publishers/distributers for revenue and advertising, the presenters have the charisma of a brick and treat you as a viewer like you're a fucking idiot. If I want to be talked down to by someone with the intelligence of a towel I'll go into Carphone Warehouse.
I miss the good old printed format of magazine from the 16bit-early 32bit times. The internet killed 90% of the excitement. I so miss GAMEFAN, each new issue was like bible to me, I'd read every word in every issue I got. Done most of my reading in study hall. Willing went to the principal's office because the gay study hall teacher demanded that I study and read only school related material and took my magazine away. I fought for my rights, made it a point to let me do as I wish in study hall as long and the material is appropriate for school. I won To help complete my bucket list I ended up getting a full page article with a picture of my setup in the hardcore gamer section My gf at the time almost de-owned me from embarrassment when a few people recognized me at a few store after the fact lol I am missing the 1st few issues I wish I could find them for a fair price...
So true. Video games made most of my bdays and xmases I'd play games with my friends go outside play more then come back in and play more games! had only a small stash to pick from, ended up playing the same games over and over. My dad would tease my friend and I by constantly saying "power up" because of altered Beast on the genesis(bought with saved bday and xmas money). That and golden axe was one of the only games I had for a while. The label on the carts started to turn white from inserting and removing the 2 games so many times.
That's him 'Fat Boy Barry' he was well cool, damn! the good old days a trip down memory lane Yes I remember watching that as well but I think the show I was referring to was called 'Gamer-TV' which used to broadcast on Bravo I'd always tune into that they had some really cool reviews:thumbsup: I totally agree I don't particularly like the new stuff they show such as 'Ginx Files' and 'Game Face' I mean they weren't that bad but they just didn't have the spark to it and I didn't quite enjoy it as much. Oh well now we have no gamer shows at all so I'll just watch the back episodes on YT lol.
