Gimme a good reason for it.
Why not use an Action Replay (5 in 1) which acts like a mod chip + adds ram + adds free space to save + more and instead chip the saturn?

Because people like playing "backups" without performing the swap trick.

Your best bet is to put switches in the Saturn, use an AR cart for RAM and backup memory, and play originals, sure :)

Why put switches on the saturn? (the second part was selfeplanatory.)

If you have a PAL Saturn, not every NTSC game runs perfectly in 50 Hz using an Action Replay. In fact, a few don't work at all with an AR cart.

Nope, only a handful of games: In The Hunt and Ultraman might be the only ones (and only In The Hunt is worth playing out of those two). However, some games like Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter "work" in 50 Hz but are basically unplayable because of graphics glitches.

That's incorrect, Guardian Heroes works fine with an Action Replay.

I've got a very comprehensive saturn US/JP switch guide on youtube, though it's a 4-parter. I think I had a thread somewhere in perhaps the hacks/mods forum.

Also: Are all AR carts "the same"? Different revs that might change results?

Plus, if the Saturn is a model 2 it takes more time to unscrew and later screw-in the case than it does to install the chip, if you've got a soldering iron. You won't have this ugly cart sticking out of your system. It won't boot to the AR cart every time you turn the console on (it does this, right?) - get right to the gaming. Though, for imports it's definitely easier for a lot of people to deal with the cart.
I'm afraid of those carts, but I realize it's probably not much safer than the hammered-out modchips.

To be honest these days, it's cheaper and easier to buy three Saturns of different region than search for a mod chip and then mess a saturn up trying to install the thing.

I disagree on cheaper, mod chips are usually pretty easy to find and much cheaper than just the shipping of importing a system.

Saturn modchips, I can get them for $7 each or so but I have to buy 100 of them...

Then that's not cheap ;-) lol.

True Saturn fans will have a cart of some sorts sticking out of their machine, actually. Some games NEED the RAM cart.

I wouldn't say buying 3 Saturns is cheaper or easier than buying one in your own country and installing switches, though ;-) You'd have to be a REAL klutz with a soldering iron for it to be hard. As in someone who'd probably burn themselves with the iron. In the foot.

PDSaga JAP (AZEL) will not run with a 4in1 on a PAL Saturn, tried it and failed.
