But my point it that movies and books have a story that you get wrapped up in and people don't watch the same movie a couple of times a week. Video games can have that same story, but they can also have extremely different playing experiences. Art you generally don't watch for hours each day, though I am sure that someone somewhere does just that.

When it comes to music, however, people can and will listen to the same set of songs day in and day out. No variation in the songs, little to no variation in the set.

This is just one of those questions that is just not worth answering.

It's like asking: "What's the point of living, if we are going to die anyway?"

I think the simple answer for that, is because songs are shorter than movies, less mentaly intensive than games, and easier to access than paintings.

I dunno, I had my system stolen from my car about a year and a half ago. I drove around for a year with no radio/music, and it was boring. Then i went all out and had a 6.2 1700 watt (yes, i know... It's not really 1700 watts) suround sound system put in my car. Now i'm not quite sure how i lived in silence for so long.

I'll put it from another point of view: I'm a pretty young guy, somewhere in my 20's. I've been loosing my hearing ever since highschool, it's some sort of degenerative nerve condition that can't be treated. At this point, i'm about 60% deaf. The reason i listen to music now is because i like it. It's that simple really. Within the next 2-3 years, i'll be completely deaf, and i won't be able to listen anymore. Music from a certain era makes me remember things of that time in my life that i otherwise wouldn't remember. I think i use audio clues to orgainze my memories in a way... it's hard to explain.

    Music is cool.

Hmmm I almost forgot, when I get high of the music, pictures and colours gets into me :). And second: Music expands everything in me. intellect, love, feelings, you name it. If you check my earlier replies in the two music threads. I love so much music, that I don´t know where to start and end, when it comes to music. Since I like everything (in genre) from Classical, to Symphonic Heavy Metal (Nightwish). And I am a big,but not fanatic , fan of Depeche Mode.

    You, sir, are awesome [IMG].

Music tends to have a major effect on my emotions, so I try to stay away from certain songs when I'm not feeling too well. At the same time, a "happier" song can cheer me up.

    I'm so unstable. [IMG]

i listen from Classic to Heavy too. I'm very opened to almost everything. From
Dave Douglas to Kraftwerk, From Depeche Mode to System of a Down, From Nirvana to Bedouin Soundclash, From Various Middle East musics to Orchests and Opera and back to Gorillaz and Smash mouth, to U2 and much, much more. I hate to list what i like though, 'cause i always forget lots of things. Basicly, i like lots of things that you dont really ear on radio, And i hate most of the things on it.
i like things that reinvent themselves.

I'm with you, mairsil. Theres plenty of songs I like, and I'll put the radio on in the car as background noise...and something to sing along with...but I don't have enough interest to buy CDs...or download music...or turn music on when I'm just sitting around. I don't dislike music...I just don't really care about it.

Granted, my interests don't normally match up with the general population anyway.

Oh, with regards to rap, it used to be music, but now it blows something hard. Listen to something like old Snoop, Dre, or Beastie Boys and tell me theres nothing musical there. Oh, I do have a thing for Outkast though...damn talented.

Rap used to be music, true. there was some good things coming and it was descent, but that was way before all the commercial and gangsta rap invaded the market. I just cant stand this thing (because i cant call it music). It's just annoying as hell now.

That goes both ways buddy. Nuff said. Don't force your opinions on us and we'll do the same.

Back on topic...I listen to music because it makes me feel good. Plain and simple but that's what it is.

I listen to music because I enjoy it.
Also, it helps the commute to and from work more bearable. :)

I also have a tip for you...get a grip on reality. You can't go far without it. I'll go paint that xbox now while listening to my rock music [IMG].

just make that his reputation points go down and send PMs to mods guys.. He needs to change its childish acting, and if we all do that, maybe he'll change or get banned. Either way, hopefully.

And now i'll get a reply along the line of "go kill yourself", "you're a nerd, cahaz" or both.

    Re-Edit :
Not only why do people listen to music....but, HOW do they do that?
I mean, i just discovered tonight there are two ways of listening to music :

    a) a passive, introverse way (when you listen and simply let your brain go nuts)
    b) an active, when you dance and act alot more socially.

    Which one do you choose?
