Why is SEGA's music so catchy?

Seriously, can't tell you how much that pisses off my wife. But I love singing Sega music. That era, the early to late 90s arcade era, for me was the best in gaming. I just love all those games to pieces.

Sonic 3 + Knuckles. The Pinnacle of Sega music.

One can thank Michael Jackson for this. I know it was a hotly contested rumor but in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the 360 it flat out states he did work on the game's music. I suppose it may not have been 100% accurate and someone just copy+pasted the rumor into the game but given the evidence I wouldn't be shocked.

One of my favourite theme from Sega is the flying battery zone 2 in Sonic and knuckles.

As far as the Michael Jackson rumour, wasn't just heavily rumoured for the longest time and once he died his old sound team actually flat out openly said it was their team that did large chunks of the music and Jacko himself didn't want much credit due to the soundchip not being able to do exactly what he wanted.

There's so many brilliant themes, I think part of it was almost all games were treated as if they were (and often actually were) arcade games so they had to be catchy in every way.

Virtual On, forget the name of the track was the one that played as you fought Raiden.

Burning Rangers theme (English version) Haha some super funky music in this game

Phantasy Star Online Opening (All the stage music, apart from maybe Caves still sticks in my head) Episode 3 had very funky music also.

I would put this billy hatcher music on in lobbys online in PSO Ep3 non stop, much to the annoyance of almost everyone else...

I always loved the streets of rage games music as a game I far prefer the 3rd and also like its crazy dance music. The samurai fight was great.

One I loved back in the day from Last Bronx

One of my favourite bits of game music ever, Atlom Dragon Panzer Saga theme. The music of the Panzer Dragoon games are probably my favourite every bits of game music.

However I feel a few of you may like this.

I find one of the most consistent features of my favorite games (though it's certainly not the only one) is if it's quirky and/or a little bit weird. And SEGA games definitely have that quality.

Wonder Boy III sure did have some great music in it. I remember being amazed by the parallax scrolling on the end credits as well as the music when I was a kid.

I really liked the music from Sonic Adventure! one of my favourite Dreamcast games.

I know its technically its not all in-house music but the Jet Set Radio games have some great tracks, sadly not all of it is making it to the HD release on Live and PSN.

I also love the Comix Zone soundtrack!

    On a side note:

The following comment comes from rapper Hunnid-P, who was involved with some music on Sonic Adventure 2.

“I’ll have some new Knuckles music as soon as Sega and I work on this new project for Sonic so stay tuned!

    That's from last june, anyway...

Guess nobody here wants to kick the rock, or likes pumpkin soup, tougher than leather, etc...

About wonderboy III, dat box art.

I better escape from the city

I really like a lot of the vocal tacks from sonic adventure 1 and 2, live and learn especially haha but I have a special place in my heart for the metal harbour and geen forest music
The rap in SA2 was always terrible, i remeber the first time I played wild canyon the line "Give up the emerald or die I don't love you" made me piss myself laughing

also, though the game was pretty bad, I very often find myself listening to His world from sonic 2006

Oh and I adore basically all the music from S3&K

No doubt about it. Even Michael's small diminished influence made for great music. The ending theme sounds a bunch like Stranger in Moscow too.
