Here is my ebay and paypal horror story.

I sold a $700 NPDP-GBOX unit to Graaonline.com, it's some shit online RPG in france. The rule is buyer beware. I.E. if you dont know what it is, dont fucking bid.

It arrives promptly, but they had no clue how to use a NPDP-GBOX. Even worse they thought it was a G-DEV even though it clearly was not. After they got the unit they then demanded applications for the unit like codewarrior and such, items NOT INCLUDED in the auctions. I am not buying thousands of dollars in items to make a crackpot happy.

Of course to save money the item was sent global air mail which is not trackable to destination. Only the insurance is. Paypal refused to wait on the proof of delivery from the insurance.

So what does he do? He says he never got the item and files on paypal for a chargeback. Time goes, by, paypal refuses to wait for the track on the insurance.

Paypal sends the money back to him. He now has the money and the item. a total loss of $1400.
Paypal could care less that I have emails from him asking me how to use the machine.

    Then the kicker:

I had a last crop of auctions which I told people I did not accept paypal on.
So what do they do? Fucking Paypal. Jlingr paypals me $250. I told every bidder in advance DO NOT PAYPAL ME. He does. Money goes right to the guy in france.

Now I have two claims on my account.

I wind up sending almost $1000 worth of items for free as the money went to the guy in france for the item "not sent".

My account is locked. I decide to wait on the trace. The Us postal service cannot fail. Wrong. The trace takes 30 days top get to france, 30 days in france, 30 days back. NINETY FUCKING DAYS. It's been over 100 and no answer. "Wait" they tell me.

I can't kill my business not selling. So I decide to take it as a loss, and send the money to the liar and take the hit.

What does paypal tell me for the last month:

TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE ON YOUR ACCOUNT ADD FUNDS FROM A BANK ACCOUNT

    so I try and get..

CANNOT ADD BANK ACCOUNT OR FUNDS UNTIL ISSUES ARE RESOLVED.

So I call, and the wonderful support tells me the same thing.

ME: So to fix the problem I need to add funds?
    PP: "Correct"
ME: But I can't add funds until the issue is resolved.
    PP:"Yes sir"
ME: So how do I fix the problem?
PP: "Add funds from a bank account"
ME: But I can't do that until the issue is resolved!
PP: "Correct" "Are there any other problems I can help you with today?"

So this moebius loop of the parrot reading from a script continued until I called him a fucking idiot and asked for a supervisor.

I was told to e-mail support:

I go this today in my e-mail:
" You cannot add or remove funds until your account issues are resolved."

I responded with a JPEG of my middle finger.

Sorry to hear about that. I always hear bad stories about paypal, I hope nothing like that ever happens to me. I hope that gets resolved soon for you.

Holy shit man, that sucks. I've heard the stories as well about how paypal sucks and how they lock accounts for no reason. I still use the service but only for minor items and rarely keep much money in my online paypal account.

For large items, money orders/cashiers cheques are the best way to go. Escrow might be a good alternative for some items but might be a little "in-the-way" for high-volume sellers such as yourself.

Don't deal with the french. This is coming from real life experience btw. This is what happened.

The company I work for builds PC systems for business and resellers. One of our clients bought about 10 systems from us. We build them including the OS and MS Office as well as some other software installed, and then we ship it out to our client's client. Our client resold them to another company thats located some where around south east france. About 3 and a half months later the client comes in and tells us that he got ripped off by the company he sold the 10 systems to. He was out $18K because according to his policy: if the machines were DOA he would give them a full refund. He only uses this policy because the systems we sold him were never DOA or malfunctioning when the customer recieved them. They threatened to sue our client. The company he sold them to said the systems wouldn't boot and the hardware was simply broken, but somehow they were able to tell that no software was installed on the harddrives as well. How could that be if they claimed that NONE of the hardware worked whatsoever? We also got screwed because before this incident we used USPS to ship our products. Our client paid to have it shipped from our location directly to his client to save time. That french company complained to USPS and accused us of mail fraud. We had to pay a $5k fine to USPS or have the business license revoked and the business would be shut down indefinetly. Since that incident we switched to UPS when shipping out our products. As for our client, hes still in business but no longer does business with Europe.

I hope things turn out better for you than they are now, Assembler.

It's not the French. Some people are just fucking retarded. Oh, and Graalonline does in fact suck major amounts of ass.

Every time I buy something from somebody online, I talk to them to make sure they know what they're getting into, and that they're not fucking retarded.

People are also the reason I don't sell much at all. Selling is a lot of work, and in the end, some fucktard can screw you over just because they're in a pissy mood.

*Yes, I'm aware that I said "fucking retarded" or some variation of three times. It just seemed to fit...because people are fucking retarded. (4 times now)

Then again...I'm a bitter, bitter fellow.

I love Paypal. They are my friends. They have never, ever stolen any money from me, and I doubt they ever will. What a great payment service. I guess people figure it's not worth their time filing charebacks of $9.99. Thank jesus.

So what is the answer to the Paypal fuckjob? Is there ANY way to fully protect yourself? This is totally fucked up. How can a system that broken be used by so many people? I know I'm always going on about Japan this and that, but even if there were asshole fraudelent cocks there, their bank infrastructure is so much better. No need for Paypal -- just walk to a fucking ATM and transfer the money for a whopping $3 (max... sometimes less).

My boss (at the Japanese school) is a Wannabe French - meaning mexican that wants to believe she's french because it's chic and she majored in French. She's hard as hell to deal with; changes things (or makes me change things) that I correctly design, even if she has no knowledge of design or style, just because she wants to. Doesn't pay on time. (until yesterday, I worked for free a whole month... overtime and other expenses included) Gives orders that conflict with the school's interests, and is generally absent.

I didn't want to generalise, but I've had serious problems like these with french fellows. Many of my best teachers EVER are french too, though, so yeah, it's more retardedness than nationality.

I myself am NEVER getting paypal. It's safer for me, considering the mexican and american postal services, to mail cash in an envelope, or simply to burn a 100 peso bill and save myself a frustrating transaction.
I generally buy or sell in person, or more remotely through cash deposit on my bank account. It's considerably safe, but nothing really is, in Mexico. Hell, the bank stole 27 pesos from my mom's account the other day and the clerks simply came up with reason after reason every time my mom showed them proof. Fucking thieves. One day, I'll somehow have my revenge. The bastards...

So, ASSEMbler, should we start some sort of Boycott or make your case known elsewhere? I'm sure bad publicity takes companies into quicker action.

But that shit costs money and there are tons of red tape you have to go thru with the Feds. Plus you pay taxes. Why do you think there are high interest rates these days?

Um, yeah, I'll vouch for both of those methods, especially considering I'm the person involved in both of these transactions. :smt083

ASSEMbler, if you have the time, try to contact your state's attorney general or the SEC. I know both of them have been probing Paypal for sometime now. This mainly due to how Paypal is trying to act like a bank but violating or ignoring banking regulations. A perfect example is how they stole (literally and illegally) the unauthorized eBay payment without giving you the chance to reject/refund it. Is there any chance that you will get the insurance refund, or are they saying the package was delivered and take it up with the recipient?

I've had problems with paypal in the past as well, but none that I would deem 'horror stories'. However, if I was in your position I would have avoided selling anything to the guys a graalonline.com. They are made up of nothing but notorius assholes. At one point, about maybe five years ago, Graal Online was an awsome game filled with alot of good and interesting people. The community was dedicated, and the admins responsible. However, about the time the game went pay-to-play everything changed, where in the game was re-designed into a much worse version, the community spirit died and the admins became corrupt and cruel. These days Graal Online is as to assholes, as Assemblergames is to prototype and rare games.

TAXES? HAHAHAHA Let me educate you a bit, as you are a friend and should get the "wake up"

I use my tax deductions allowed as a company. I pay less tax then someone with a job. Sure I pay more, but by the time I deduct my car, everything I eat and use, it's far less than someone getting a paycheck from an employer.

A company: Earns, spends all it can (like my hdtv, my car, my food, my phone, trips to japan, computer, clothing etc), then pays taxes on what is left. Usually what is left is put in tax free funds, so that in reality I pay *no* taxes until I cash that in, and I won't do that until I retire. (Then I pay almost nothing if anything at all!)

A Person: Earns, has that Taxed, then spends what is left and pays taxes on that too when he spends it! Whatever tiny amount you to put in a bank for "savings" at 3% interest is taxed as well. What a deal! Triple taxation! I hope you don't mind not being rich, ever.

Rich people don't pay any taxes homeslice! Time to wake up.

You pay about 17% tax in the usa on average, and your employer pays half of social security (which is money they aren't paying you). So in reality you are being taxed about 30%!!!

My company (myself) paid 3% total tax last year. I pay NINETY PERCENT less taxes than you.

Kevin, you won't get it back man, exact same thing happened to me once. I'm still trying to think of some kind of plan to scam PayPal out of a few K. Seriously.

lol. That really sucks. I haven't had any problems with paypal, yet. But this story makes me reluctant to use their services in the future. I hope this ends up getting worked out and you don't get shafted.

  20. Thanks for the enlightening, although rather costly story, I'm glad I don't have to use eBay/Paypal.

...And damn those stupid automated endless messages that don't help at all!

    ...What happened to common sense?
