Today apple unveiled the new iPod Touch, which is basically an iPhone without the phone part... This is good news for people like me who dont like the idea of being slaves of AT&T for life, and having to use its damn EDGE system (that and I already have a good cellphone, which was free BTW). Pictures: Apparetly it doesnt have a camera, which I dont care since the iPhone's camera was barely average... On the other hand, this baby has the same NAND memory from the iPhone, but at $299 for 8GB and for $399 (the new MSRP for the iPhone) you get a 16GB version which is DOUBLE the amount the higher-end iPhone gets:dance: I'm getting one of these later this month:nod:
Hmm....I wonder if they'll call the iPhone "iPod premium" and the iPod Touch "iPod core" like the xbox 360's? I'm not a big fan of apple, but this thing looks really cool, but i think the price is too much for 8 and 16 GB's. If it wasn't for the price and if there was a HDD hack, I'd get one. -Gamerfreak1727
The touch screen is cool, but I'm already kind of dissatisfied with my 5G iPod. The sound quality is terrible, especially considering the price I paid for it. You'd think a music player would be pretty good at playing music, but it does a better job of just sitting there and looking slick. Apple wants $299 for an 8GB MP3 player? Ahahahaha
This is a little off topic, but can you do a hard drive upgrade on an iPod? I know that you can w/ a Zune.
As far as I am concerned it is just another device with a fragile build quality that ensures repair suppliers up & down the land will rub their hands together "Oooo, what a lovely screen to shatter". As I walk along, cycle, or whatever I rarely fancy watching a video incase I go under the wheels of a truck.
Glad that the Ipod Touch isn't showing Apple Ipod owners in a stereo typical way by showing a Starbucks logo. All you need now is a Gap label, and old navy shirt some timberland boots and you'll have white american middle class trendy idiot down to a tee.
the iphone has nothing to do with this ipod. Although I personally prefer to use different devices/different batteries for my phone (a professional tool) and my music player (a leisure tool), people who bought the iphone were after a smart-phone with lots of memory, that incidentaly could also play mp3s and videos. Repeat after me , they were after a phone. How exactly does this subsitute the need for a smartphone?
Yes it does: is practically the same thing. It has the same multitouch screen, same processors, WiFi and even the same accelerometer the iphone has, but without the phone components (antenna and transmitter) and apparently no camera. It runs on the same OSX-derivative from the iPhone, and includes all non-phone software from its older brother like safari, that photo browser, youtube support, etc... Nobody bought the iPhone as a replacement for thier smartphones, they already knew that it had limited functions in that area. Anyone who bought the iphone was for a single reason: the fact it was the first massive multitouch devices and becos it was awesome/cool to look at it:lol: Honestly I wouldnt mind getting an iphone if it wasnt becos it costs an arm and a leg, and even after paying that much I still owe my soul to AT&T for their low-class data services... Plus as I mentioned earlier, I already have a good celphone that I got for free from my company, so getting an iPhone would mean an innecesary expense for something I'll barely use at all (as in the phone functions). Therefore, if I want multitouch the best choice out there would be the iPod touch. Is the price you've to pay if you want a slim gadget.....cuz it uses NAND, not a harddrive like the iPod classic (the normal iPod). They [apple] could've easily used a harddrive and make a Touch with 80GB like the normal iPod, but then it would've been fat and heavier.
You dont need to be a slave to AT&T, there are already hacks to make it work with all networks. Im tempted to get an iphone as i need a new phone anyway & i need a new mp3 player so might as well get a combi device.
Yeah the turboSIM card, I'm aware of the iPhone scene but honestly from my point of view iPhone hacks are still in a very early stage. When the iphone devteam comes with their software unlock hack then we can talk about the iPhone in other networks. And as I said, I already have a phone...
