So after seeing Yakumo (i think?) success modding his wii to play imports. I too want to do this, so I can play the new Tat vs Cap fighter and some other imports. But seeing as the nintendo wii updates, does this feature get locked out? Etc? Will I brick my wii when I update a game and stuff?
It's a vicous cycle nintendo patches, Hackers fix it nintendo patches. Anything that happens to block out your wii from playing imports won't last more than a few weeks
Well the thing is when you softmod a Wii it blocks updates from the disc itself.Im running on firmware 3.2 and can play any new game for the matter. If you need any help let me know. And a good way to brick a Wii is to update your Wii from a different region, but like I said the softmod blocks all updates from disc.
according to my research - no. And pikkon just pointed that out. Hey Pikkon the thread you showed a moderator on that forum deleted it. Mind helping me out?
Yes, it was me. I've not had any problems with Nintendo updates but if you do worry you can just load your original new games from the Gekko loader inside the homebrew channel. that way even if the game does force an update it won't because it wasn't booted through the Wii's standard loader. However Dance Dance Revolution Full Party won't load via the Gekko loader. Well, it does but you get a message in English saying there's a problem. Everything else seems fine though. Yakumo
I softmodded my Wii using the guide here: http://tinyurl.com/6cqymw Its fairly straightforward and I probably could have figured it out with out it. I can't tell if the softmod blocked retail disc updates, but I do know that games loaded via the backup launcher (and the Disc Channel once its patched) does block disc updates from backups. I ripped my japanese copy of Pokémon Battle Revolution (don't ask) using a disc backup tool, and have played it via the backup launcher cause I'm paranoid of region updates...
this lets you just play imports right? I don't care about back ups, I just want to play the new Tat vs cap can i still go online?
If you don't care about backups you only need to install the homebrew channel via the Twilight Hack (that still works, right?).
Actually the backup launcher has better compatibility than Gekko loader but you can always use one if the other one does not work. And yes it blocks retail game updates just as a backup games does.Let me find you a nice and easy guide. So yes you can use the backup launcher to boot real import games and also you can install starfall, which makes your Wii region free and launch import games from the disc channel but you have to be on 3.2 usa or pal firmware.
I think he meant you just need backup launcher or starfall if you want to boot the games from your disc channel (else you'll boot it through the backup launcher).
You can have both, its just if one doe not boot your game you can always try the other one.But for starfall to work you need to be on 3.2 firmware,if not than you have to downgrade using a app. More info here. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_apps/Starfall
Downgrade to 3.2, its the best out. Apparently the 3.4 update allows Nintendo to change your firmware without asking (Cant confirm since I never tried to update)
You can run on 3.4 firmware just fine, just disable Wii connect.Yea 3.2 is the best. Also there is a new softmod that basically has 100% compatibility for Wii games of any region and games run thru the disc channel.
cIOSPACK, Aqualino Mod,... But i believe in modchips like new FLATMOD and Wazabii SX (something like that) 100% solderless solution
Run it also. Used the Zelda exploit and flashcard to get Backup Loader on there. It sits in the Windows menu, never updated my console, though. It allows all regions, only bad effect I get sometimes is that the movies tend to shock. Not with all games, but I had it on Mario, Wario etc.
You can patch the games to skip the updates with a program, but don´t remember the name, I'll check it tomorrow.
lol if you drive me up to seattle to pick it up xD It's been about 9 months since i went to pink godzilla.
oh snap! this weekend. saturday. it's a date. hopefully my favorite employee is working.
