Im not the one claiming to be an expert. Why am I being questioned?

You got 75% of the questions wrong, tough luck.

That was a good quiz, I'm curious what the answer to question 2 is. I know you can get into the wii service mode by taking a gc controller apart, and on booting the wii press all 4 direction buttons on the gc controller. I think only the original wii models were capable of using bootmii as a safeguard since Nintendo fixed the boot loader to prevent cfw or tried.

Don't get upset at the other members for educating you. There was another member here who did the exact same thing, and complained people were being assholes. Many of you know who he is.
Just accept you messed up and thank others for helping you. It's not hard.
I'll leave the thread open for you to do so..

Socrates said that, life becomes way less stressful once you accept it.

It's great that you like to tinker, but there will always be someone who knows more than you, in every aspect of life. Don't rail against these people, learn from them.

If Wii heat-control interests you, I'd personally be looking at alternatives rather than simple removal. Does the Wii Mini have a fan?

Think of it from the other point of view too: whey did the Nintendo engineers include a fan, if it would ramp up production costs? They might have expected the console to be subjected to greater heat stress than what you're observing. Like when the cooling system is clogged up, thermal pads/paste dried up, hotter climate and poor natural air circulation around the parts.

Other than preventing the console from breaking down immediately, it could be to prolong its lifespan under continuous, prolonged usage.

This only works on consoles where bootmii can be installed as boot2 (it doesnt have to be installed though before its bricked). You can check the date code on the Hollywood chip or use this serial list I helped put together for a rough estimate: http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/112-Wii-Boot2-compatible-serial-number-List

Basically anything under Week 20, 2008 is about right.

Anyways, remove the nand (or solder to nand points, depending on programmer you are using). Dump the nand, use the tool I wrote ages ago to identify the boot1 and boot2 versions. Replace the first 8 blocks with same boot1 version and same or greater boot2 version that already has bootmii installed.

Flash it all back to the nand and resolder or power up.

You can now use bootmii as if it was preinstalled.

However, you can instead run tools directly from a SD card to reinstall damaged/missing IOS's and system menus. If the nand is contents is completely corrupt, you can dump the nand and use it for the bad block map and the keys.bin file and generate a brand new nand using giantpunes tool (the name escapes me at the moment).

This is all from memory and I have not repaired any Wiis in a long time. However, I did unbrick somewhere between 500-800 consoles in my prime so it should be pretty much accurate.

Total curiosity, but are/were you a Nintendo tech? Or one of the people at a different shop?

Thanks Bad_Ad84. I bricked a wii once by installing a bad homebrew channel wad file. Since the channel was corrupted, the rest of the wii channels wouldn't load so you get black screen after the beginning information screen. I had a post 2008 wii. Ended up just buying a new one and being more careful not to install wad files and run everything within the homebrew channel.

Anyways, the Wii is a fun system to install cfw on as its so easy. Just put in an SD card and go. But its also so easy to brick. 500-800 is a huge amount to have fixed, thats almost 360 RROD levels!

Anyway, adding my useless cent. :p

    @Sephirothkefka
In a sense, you have a point, maybe even the average temperature where you live is kind of low which could permit you to do such things. And again, yes, even the most cared after system (Say a console with water cooling, I've seen some.) could still just die like it had a heart attack as like the luck of a draw. But still why risk it? It's like trying to eat sweets/drink and saying "Nah my body can take it."

Sadly, the exponential processing increase of the Wii-U means a lot more heat generation. Also AMD products aren't really known nowadays for low heat output. Intel is curb stomping them so much in the low power + IPC they need the all the power (And heat generation) they can get. :(

I understand completely now. ANd I already knew that AMD products can get hotter than Intel/Nvidia.

Inversely, I wonder if anyone has tried adding a fan to a launch model Japanese Sega Saturn? There's a spot for one.

I don't think there is a pad on the board. At least it seems that way.
