I had a Rift DK2 and its a really wierd experience, I enjoyed it alot for a start but started becoming annoyed with it and eventually just replaced it with a monitor

The PSVR is supposed to allow glasses, but I don't need to have mine on when I use it.

It's still nothing but a gimmick. Yeah, Rift isn't something like Virtual Boy but still not many people will play for 3+ hours w/o any eye strain or headache.

P.S. Wake me up when something like holodeck will be available. Even without force fields and super-smart AI but at least with life-like high res 3D without any need for goggles and stuff.

The problem for VR is that you aren't moving physically but are totally immersed. It feels wrong.

Also the cost. I can't see the PSVR being less than $399.

I honestly don't think it'll take off. Not at the prices the Hololens and Oculous Rift are, anyway.

Hololens is AR, not VR (it's also a fully self-contained system, not a peripheral). They are not even remotely the same thing.

    PSVR is $400

$100 too much but still cheaper than Rift and Vive. I'll wait for a price drop and get it near generation's end.

It's the cheapest of all the non-phone based VR and I wouldn't be surprised if Sony isn't actually making money on it.

I don't really understand the shock and surprise people are displaying on the price of VR. The tech going into these devices is complicated and expensive and needs to be to provide the level of immersion and response for proper gaming use. Companies are not going to sell this tech at a loss.

Price is probably going to doom this to niche market for the next 5-6 years, but ultimately VR is going to be the downfall of men.

Nintendo proved with the Wii that the execution and technology doesn't need to be high spec and/or perfect, it's the novelty and marketing. So in this perspective I can totally see VR in it's current state lift off, especially the PS VR.

The Wii was also very cheap compared to other systems. VR? Not so much. I don't see people dropping that kind of money on something that will likely end up collecting cobwebs after a few weeks/months (much like the Wii did).

Here's something I don't understand; supposedly you need a pretty high-end PC to run games on the Oculus well. The PS4 isn't anywhere near the specs they list for the Oculus; how can the PS4 be expected to do VR decently? Smartphones aren't even as powerful as a PS4; it seems to me like VR on a phone would either run terribly or look terrible or both.

PSVR has a unit that plugs in somewhere on the PS4 that boots the PS4 Processing power.

I don't believe that phone powered VR does high end stuff, like the big sexy games you see done in VR. Though I could be wrong.
Plus the Galaxy S6 (the oldest phone that'll use Galaxy VR) is a pretty beefy phone. It's got 8 cores man. EIGHT CORES
