*sigh* No, it doesn't. Now that it is public knowledge the add-on box is just there for the 120 FPS reprojection and some 3D/spatial audio processing.

My gut tells me it will only become a niche genre at best. It has taken far too long for there to be substantial progress in VR. I'm still waiting for a VR game to truly wow me.

"boots the PS4 Processing power"? Do you mean "boosts"?

Maybe it'll be an external GPU.

Even if they would make perfect head tracking and eye tracking, the vergence aberration caused by a screen would make a lot of people sick within a relatively short play time. You might get used to it though. Solution would be using lasers on the retina instead of a screen, buy I don't see that being accepted/tried anytime soon.

There is no vergence "aberration" with split screens (I've never even heard of that term before and am quite curious as to its origins). This might have been true with a single screen experience, but dual screen VR is highly geared towards taking into account the viewer's interpupillary distance.

The technical term is vergence accomodation conflict and it's unavoidable using screens.

Litterature (should not be any paywall, a very interesting read) : http://jov.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2122611

Layman terms: You normally can "feel" whether light that's not on focus is before or after the focused plane because of the angles at which it enters your eye. With screens that's impossible and makes you feel dizzy after a while.

Ok, that usage makes more sense. I skimmed through the paper, but I think that they are referring to a "single" screen 3D experience (e.g. a 3D TV), not a split screen. Tech has evolved a lot in the VR space in the past couple of years and the disorientation effects, while not completely gone for some people, have been severely reduced. I really don't think that most people are going to have issues with the technology. How games are implemented in it though...

It really has to do with the objects (and parts of them not on focus) not being at the distance they seem to be. One, two or three screens won't help that. Granted, though, that it may not be such a big deal once the others issues are fixed.

Except that using a separate screen for each eye fools the body into thinking it is using a more natural binocular vision (as opposed to "3D upconversion" similar to what you would see in a badly done 3D movie), so the distance is accommodated for once your eyes fall for the illusion. Yes, it isn't perfect, but it is not going to be as much of an issue as people think it will be. And yes, there will always be people who can't adapt at all, or who still have lingering issues (and it will always be bad for everyone to just play games for hours on end).

I've pre-ordered my PSVR and bought a PS4 Camera (which will be useful for Twitch anyway) and I'm looking forward to it landing on the doorstep in October.

I don't believe it's going to take off in a big way and will likely join the Wii balance board in the attic eventually but I'm a sucker for cool stuff like this and at £349, for once the UK market isn't getting shafted on the price. I guess like everything it's going to come down to the devs and there'll really need to be a killer app to shift the units and right now I'm not seeing much on the list, it's only going to make you go Wooahh so many times in ports (Star Wars Battlefront etc) before it becomes boring/the norm.

Cinema mode does sound interesting but I'm uneasy with being so isolated from other people in the room when watching a film.
