Damnit! why does everybody find the interesting and related stories before I do! :p
well I found a different article about it anyway in case anybody cares
    http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/opinion/...r-on-linux/?cmpid=HTML-N220911&olo=newsletter

But I don't understand what the point would be in making this compulsary because people who buy prebuilt machines, they've already paid for the windows license, so it's not as though they actually lose any money if someone buys a prebuilt windows machine, wipes it and installs linux. I mean they perhaps lose a tiny percentage with regards to "people running X operating system" but lets face it, people wiping windows and installing linux on a prebuilt machine is a pretty small minority

the only interesting thing about win8 is ARM support. i always considered arm as the future, even for desktop machines.

I wouldn't say it's the best OS. My favourite OS is actually Ubuntu. I never really liked the feel of Windows 7.

As you said, Vista is a very heavy OS and many people I know who bought OEM systems with Vista, bought XP and downgraded. Which was a good idea at the time as Dell and Acer sold low end systems with Vista. What idiots.

A friend of mine got his (at the time) vista machine infected by a nasty virus in a matter of one single day, so after a FUCKING long period of time (6 months+)him and I have had enough of the bullshit FONA played around with . So he got a new computer that worked and it was Windows 7 64 bit, and I personally went it and cleaned the sucker up, and installed Eset Smart Internet security, and everything has been running smoothly ever since. So that is why I hate Vista so much. At one time he used Linux Mint 11, and it worked perfectly well too. But now he is back with Windows 7, which is enjoying him. Why I personally hate (dislike is perhaps a better word) Ubuntu is because of its Unity shit. I am so much more enjoying Mints user interface, which I remember being Gnome 2.XX (if I recall correctly), which was the DVD version I installed on his pc, which even I was amazed by from straight out of the box. I personally use the LXDE version of Linux Mint 11, on my mini pc, and I can only say I am extremely pleased and quite happy about how it works too.
So those are my thoughts, again in this thread.

Well, the point is this. Unity made me get the hell out of Dodge/Ubuntu Land, but not their family tree , such as Linux Mint, Lubuntu, Peppermint Os One (not Two, because of Google) and now I am using Linux Mint LXDE.
So I am not abandoning Ubuntu land, just the mainline of the distro. So if I was "forced" to use Peppermint Two, I would not shy away. I would just not use the Google stuff.

Oh I have found another article upon Windows 8

I've been using the developer preview off and on since it was released and don't care for the Metro UI or Ribbon menu. But that's probably just me since I'm still comfortable with the windows classic theme.

Ubuntu 11.10 can use Gnome 3.0, or Gnome 3.0 classic, so Unity is not really a big issue anymore.

Want, not sure... I mean, as long as it's an improvement on what we have and not some sort of Vista fiasco I guess I'm OK with it.

Need, definitely not at the moment.

The issue is that they will probably make it more similar to iOS, Lion or something of the sort. I wouldn't like that. There's a reason why I don't own apple besides the price tag

This rumor was debunked before he even wrote the article and I think elsewhere in this thread is this rumor being debunked
