I sure don't. And I am a Microsoft loyalist my real issue with it is the new dashboard, making windows more like XBOX and less like a serious OS. UNLESS that dash can be turned off in settings and it just boots to the desktop.

But besides that, Windows 7 just came out what 1-2 years ago and as far as Windows goes Windows 7 is perfect, I like it more than XP even.

    So...WHY? What's the point of a 3rd windows in a 5 year span?

Windowz 8 runs on ARM hardware might have something to do with it.

Ah poor DEC if only Microsoft had written Windows NT for the DEC Alpha...

I agree, it's too soon. Unless the rumored XBOX 360 support is true (I seriously doubt it), I see no reason to upgrade, I'm really happy with Windows 7.

Windows will never be my operating system of choice (although it was at one point) for the simple reason that there are a ton of spyware/malware/viruses written for it. I'm happy with Ubuntu/Mac OS X for the moment.

<- XP forever. Took me ages to switch to it, even. I love 2000 so much, and even miss it.

My problem is I get comfortable with whatever setup I have and hate switching even if it is 'better'.

I only switched to XP from 2000 because it didnt support more than 2 cores (and I didnt want to run Server).

That said, Windows 7 is much better and would never go back to either.

Same thoughts here as well. I've got a good thing going with XP and see no reason to update to windows 7.

Though I'd be using Linux without looking back if it wasn't the case that all my hardware was made for XP. PC gaming rig runs it for games and net book doesn't perform media operations under Ubuntu nearly as well as it does running Windows XP which makes me sad as Ubuntu is a great OS.

Used XP a lot, switched to Vista then to 7 back to Vista. Some people call me stupid for staying with Vista, but personally it's just worked out for me perfectly. Of course I will get back to 7 after my next format. For some reason Windows 7 shat it's self on me.

Used windows 7 since the beta and have had zero problems with it, i of course started using it with XP in a dual boot in case of any problems but as soon as it hit retails i moved over to it as my single OS of choice on my desktop which has been tocking it for years and i've now even put it on my laptop and i'll probably dual boot with linux when i get a bigger drive..

Do when need Windows 8? Yes but i am not certain we need it right now. Windows 7 has been out only a few years and it's a well received OS so i see no immediate need to move on unlike Vista to 7 as Vista was not well received and was poor so either it needed serious fixing or a new OS and they chose the former.

Vista was premature as XP had a lot of life in it. Vista was also shit, hence Windows 7 was released to right Vista's wrongs (which should have been a service pack, or free to Vista users). I don't want Windows 8 and I sure as shit don't need it any time soon.

Windows 7 IS Vista just with patched up areas like you said Legit. I like both OSs, so I can't complain with any of them. I just dislike XP after using Vista and 7.

Windows 7 is to Vista as Windows 98 SE was to 98.

Also, Vista got a hard time because it changed the driver model and locations of user files, permissions, etc.

This means lot of software and hardware stopped working. By the time 7 came around, most of these issues were already fixed.

I dont see the point in Windows 8, especially if it ends up being full priced. Build a platform like OSX, and offer upgrades for cheap (lately), and Id be more interested in frequent updates.

8 could be a chance to start fresh - MS could kick out most, if not all, of the legacy stuff. Some of it, like the 16-bit subsystem, is already gone from the 64bit versions of Vista/7, so they might as well go all the way this time. Native apps aren't gonna run on ARM anyways, and there's no point in having users call in and complain that their (ARM) box can't run something their neighbor's (x86) can.

That being said, while I'll keep following 8's development and play around with it when it's done, I'll definitely stick with Gentoo Linux on my main box.

you've hit the nail on the head there, their were too many changes for people upgrading to vista and it became very confusing for your average user, i think its far too early for another version of Windows, 7 works great and is the best OS they have put out for years, typical Microsoft though, chucking more stuff at you that you dont need
