For people who like to open second hand consoles to mod, or just give them a clean. What is the worst thing you have found inside?
Most of the time I find dust, lint etc. Sometimes I find hair, which I hate. I found mould inside a Gamecube once, but the worst is probably a spiders egg sac plus mother spider.

I remember ordering a 360 xdk from China and when I opened it up there were a lot of very weird see through spiders inside (like the one in Krul) I killed them all just in case ;)

I had never heard of Krull. Just googled it, strange cyclops man and massive transparent spiders (shudders).

I'm lucky, just 30 years of dust.

Rust. One VA7 I got off eBay had its RF shields rusted like hell. Promptly threw those away. The other VA7 was practically pristine minus a few hairs and dust.

    I don't want to open my PS2 since that's already a roach motel. :(

    Roaches.

An N64, it had brown smears all along the ports. I didn't know what roaches were, I thought it was just dirty.... so I opened it in my room and under the heat sink was roaches. I have no idea how they were in there, they must have been
eating each other, as it's not possible to get out again.

So it was like a terrible cannibal colony stuck inside an N64..... I opened the window and threw it as far as I could.
It flew some 20 meters or more, bouncing off the ground many times. I went down and sprayed it with poison.

I cleaned it up and actually sold it to someone... (shudder)

Now when I get items, I put them in double plastic bags, then leave them in a shed for a week, so that any insects try to leave and signs will be evident.

Had weird looking bugs with wings in one XBOX, and orange goo. No idea what it was, but I completely washed the damn thing. It's now the Power Girl XBOX I made, but with completely different parts in it.

The thought of cockroaches in a console (and bed bugs) makes my skin crawl. I think we do get cockroaches here in the UK (I have never seen one) but they are uncommon as the climate isn't generally suited.

    :concern:
    hell NO!
    fuck that!
never seen 'burrowers' in my tech, or any picked up, cept one time a spider got too close to an external case fan on computer, got sucked in a splashed to the four winds, all over the housing plate...scruffy! (fan and setup is properly housed and obscured, not happened again)
    ...
    worst i've found:
good day, just dust and time, items were kept in top condition vs movement, given space, left and used, they got lucky, so did i. cleaning wasn't an issue.
bad day, total plantpots that did some sort of 'surgery' and fucked it up, all kinds of mess...take your pick. (bridged/merged points that shouldn't be bound, blowouts, fires...real IDIOT stuff that short of professional WILL lead to a world of SHIT!)
    ...
heard of some 'tales' but grateful never been there IRL...don't wanna, burrowing and shit..?!?!?! :concern:

It's worth Telling again. I got a Saturn 3d Pad that reeked of Pot. The people who sold it to me bought it at an estate sale or so they claimed. I'd like to think that somebody before I owned this thing was getting high off their ass and playing Nights. No matter how many times I cleaned this thing the smell just can't get out. for all I know Pot is stashed inside the controller I haven't been able to open it up to find out. In the year or so since I got it the smell has subsided. But I think before using it next time I need break it out with Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier or anything by Cypress hill playing in the background until I turn the system on.

Nah just kidding. Compacted Nicotine soaked dust is often the worst thing I find in consoles.

Meanwhile, I still didn't find much crap on consoles, only some dust and some spilled soda on some cases.

Attempted to recover a dumped PC [chucked into some bushes].

Bees. a lot of them. Saw them buzzing as i approached. Ended up leaving it since it appeared they had turned it into a hive, my grandma left out some kind of sugary water for them.

    nicotine dust is awful stuff.

Worst thing? Just a staple. But that thing shortened 7805 input and output and i had to replace almost most of the chips. It was model 1 Genesis, imagine this thing inside a console (or any other electronic device) with internal PSU - it can cause more serious problems than just dead console.

5 XBOX I purchased most of them are rusted and are roach motels with eggs. =(

I am still hoping to come by a cartridge / console stash with cash by those Mexican drug dealers... haha =X
