Would you buy another SEGA system?

OK theres like 10 guys here who`ll buy it, im sure they are goin to make it :D

To be honest, the probabilities that SEGA does realease another console are next to zero. What could be (and should be, with the xbox and X360) is that another company go in a partnership with SEGA (or just buy them) so the console is made by this company but it still sports the SEGA logo, and the exclusive games they make.

Why? becos even if SEGA gets the money nobody is goin to buy it, unless theres another company in the game that can give them the safety sensation they want when buyin hardware.

If i had to predict, I say that company would be Samsung. They`ve been trying to enter the videogame market for too long, and a partnership with a very well respected (in the quality dept) company like SEGA is the kick start they need

i'm with paulo i'd have it pre-ordered as soon as presales was taking. been a sega fan since genesis.

  3. You've been burned by them far too much? What the hell does that even mean? Why do people say that? Which systems of theirs did you get burned on? The Dreamcast was a fabulous system and to this day has probbaly the greatest library in video games history. The Saturn, too, has a fabulous library whether or not you even get into imports. Everyone always says you need to import to enjoy the Saturn, but that's bull, I could list off 20 or 30 excellent domestic Saturn games. Even the Sega CD had some really excellent games, if you had enough sense to avoid the crap it was really stellar for its day. The Genesis? In my opinion, that's been their worst system, but it's never what anyone means when they talk about getting burned by Sega. The Master System has a killer line-up of quality titles compared to the NES's lineup of shit. Though I suppose that if you were looking for shit, you would have felt burned by the SMS. The Game Gear was essentially like the SMS. I guess that leaves the 32X, there's one or two great games for it, but I wopn't argue that it's a great system. I will say, though, that if you bought it expecting years and years of great next generation level gaming, Sega may have burned you, but that's only because you let yourself get burned by not thinking shit through.

I've owned all of Sega's systems too, you see, and I've never really felt burned by any of them. They were all great and remain great to this day and into the future.

That said, no, I probably wouldn't buy a new system from Sega. At least not when it was fresh on the market. Maybe a couple years later when everyone else was onto other stuff. I doubt I'll ever buy a new mainstream video game system again.

If the 2D fighter library is anywhere near what the Dreamcast had, yes.

Sega CD (had so much potential, but fell prey to FMV games and lackluster support)
Sega 32X (poor & meager library)
Sega Saturn (a poor effort from the get go...those of us who bought it on launch day)
Sega Dreamcast (lasted all of 2 years in the US)

What do you think it means? I bought all the Sega systems on or about the day they launched in the US. The following consoles/add-ons were disasters for American gamers. Sure, the Japanese scene was a totally different story on most of these units, but I mainly buy domestic systems AND domestic games. Some of us were there from the beginning, only to be disappointed as the systems were either undersupported or killed too quickly due to Sega's then-dire financial situation.

That's not to say that good games didn't exist...I have a few favorites here and there on the above systems that I continue to play. But overall, I just don't trust Sega anymore when it comes to hardware and large scale console rollouts.

The Dreamcast (if you don't count the Game Gear) was my first SEGA system, actually. And I feel dumb for never getting a Saturn. Then again, it would have been next to impossible to find the games down here for that one.

If something remotely similar to what the dreamcast was (and also, as easy to play imports on) would be released, I'd almost sell my other consoles to get it.
Dreamcast is the best games machine I've ever had. (though PSX is not bad at all either)

I'd consider it. Maybe if they'd make another console, their game quality would go up. I don't want to play anymore shitty sonic hero/spinoff/classic collection games anymore, which is all they seem to put out these days.

    The Dreamcast wasn't a disaster.

I Would buy the system if it was a master system (plus the cool extra things from the japanese version with the sound and etc.)Megadrive/Genesis and megaCDplus 32X in one machine. then i would buy it :)

Or even a combo of all their machines :)

    *stiffy alert* ;)

  10. Maybe *YOU* fell prey to FMV games, but I never did. Actually, I thought a few of them were good like Loadstar and Microcosm, but the majority of them I avoided like a bad habit.

Agreed. But like I said, what'd you expect?

Those of you who bought it on launch day...what? You guys weren't able to buy games like NiGHTS, Saturn Bomberman, Virtua Fighter 2, Fighters Megamix, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Nightwarriors, Virtual On, Guardian Heroes, Three Dirty Dwarves, World Series Baseball '98, Steep Slope Sliders, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Legend Of Oasis, Lost Vikings 2, Puzzle Fighter, Baku Baku, Road Rash, Shinobi Legions, Tempest 2000 and Sonic R? because there's nothing poor about those games.

The Saturn is actually home to many of Sega's pinnacle games. The Dreamcast was really at the tail end of their greatness. Though their very best stuff in my opinion was for the Model 3, most of which unfortunately never got home releases.

Who cares how long it lasted? It got more great games than I can mention here. See my post in another thread for just the list of great games that I own, let alone all the ones I still need to buy. If you were disappointed by the Dreamcast, then there's something wrong with your head.

I'm an American gamer and none of those systems were disasters for me, not even the 32X.

    I'd definitely buy it...

Sega making a new home system doesn't seem to me to be of such a low probabliity. Didn't they buy SammySNK not to long ago? I know that, for the most part, that just makes them an even larger arcade juggernaut, but it also gives them an extended library of intellectual property and hardware to work with. Even if it is only something akin to a Sega NeoGeo, it seems like a good probability to me.

But then again, I could be crazy...
    What do you think?

    BTW, 100 posts. woot.

I think Steven Tyler said it best.

Well, if you bought Sony systems on launch day they would've broken 2-3 months down the road.

If a new system was announced, I'd personally snap one up in a heartbeat. Seriously, it's unlikely that Sega would release anything this ambitious now unless it felt that there was absolutely no way anything could go wrong - the company has come too far now to make that mistake again!

Would such a console really only have Sega titles for it? Third party support would be something they could definitely benefit from having, and we all know how well Capcom's software has been converted to previous Sega hardware. A new system based on the Atomiswave or even Lindbergh boards would be perfect for Street Fighter 4 and Sega's upcoming arcade sequels.

P.S. Doesn't anyone else think it's odd that Sega has already confirmed Virtua Fighter 5 and The House Of The Dead 4 will not be receiving conversions for any existing next generation platform? These would be ideal launch titles for a comeback console, don't you think? (I wish...)

I've no real complaints about Sega for the Genesis and Dreamcast era but US gamers did get burned during the Saturn's time. It is almost like they wanted it to fail here. From the piss poor marketing (Ice Cube in the F'n ads) to the jump the gun early launch that burned bridges with many a retailer to the unceremonious end that managed to bury a relationship with on of the few developers that both supported the system and was worth a damn. Way to go Bernie. Oh and let's not forget that little problem of Sega not bothering to bring over the majority of their third parties best titles. The request for those must have gotten lost in the mail I guess.

You have to admit the US Sega CD library was pretty sparse throughout its lifetime. The slow launch didn't help matters either.

All systems have their top shelf games. I don't argue with some of the games you've listed, and yes, I still keep my Saturn mainly for the godly version of Sega Rally. Trouble is, the system was basically doomed from the start here on US shores thanks to the botched headstart launch, the perception from consumers that Sony's hardware was better, and some really poor launch games (Daytona should have spent more time in development, for example).

I care how long a system lasts. Buying into a system at launch is an investment...the fact that the DC was officially canned by Sega in early 2001 was really unbelievable all things considered. I can't say that I was disappointed with the DC as a whole...I do have about a dozen games which I consider classics on that platform, but all in all, Sega just couldn't roll out and sustain this console properly and now look at where they are.
