Anyone know where to pick up a system, and are there many versions to go watching out for? Theres a few games Id like to play, and it seems like a better place to start then the MSX2 for now. (obviously, different games and stuff, but bleh :p)

Would be interesting for me, too ^^ Especially can I connect this device to a TV or PC monitor or do I need a special monitor?

I only know that you should buy a system with 2MB RAM.

Cho Ren Sha is a pretty good game though it's a homebrew one.
I don't really know if you can play it on the x68000 somehow.

I can recommend you Sol-Feace, Phalanx, Parodius Da!, Splatterhouse, the Raiden-Version as well as Gradius 2 Gofer no Yabou but those games won't come cheap. And of course, there are much cheaper versions for pc-engine/saturn/mega drive/sfc.

There is a windows version of Cho Ren Sha. Well its actually the 68K version but emulated to run on WinOS. If you have a current PC the game will run way too fast, but if you run on something like a pentium or pentium2 it will run just fine to where the enemies won't come flying at you insanely fast.

99% sure no, theres no Splatterhouse either.

Maybe 4 systems a year pop up on ebay, its a shame NGF stopped trading they had them in stock all the time. The last revisions had a 3.5" drive so cant play games....avoid. (dunno about adding exterenal 5 1/4)

Coould use one of them yahoo japan services like http://www.rinkya.com/index.php, all the struff is on there.

I made a wee site some year back pretty dated now http://baseley09.tripod.com/x68000xtreme/index.html , never owned one myself, think for my tastes pretty nullified by mame versions, only Geograph Seal and a few other playable exclusives.

    no, they were not, AFAIK.

if they had, they could've been extremely close ports of the arcade, especially Shinobi.

a Shadow Dancer on X68000 would've far surpassed the Master System and Amiga translations, which were based on the System18 arcade game, as well as surpassing the completely remade/different Megadrive-Genesis Shadow Dancer.

Alien Syndrome on X68000 proves that Shinobi and Shadow Dancer arcade games could've been done as near-carbon-copies, since Alien Syndrome was basicly a pixel-for-pixel System16-to-X68000 port.

Also, I *so* wish that X68000 ports of Altered Beast and Golden Axe had existed.

Anyone into X68000 emulation at all? I know they exist, but I'm into that whole "replicating the original machinery" thing right now. EG: Do the emulators support low res outputs for those of us w/ 15khz RGB monitors?

Yeah, I'm in to X68000 plus got ALL the images for it thanks to a friend. The best EMU does have the low resolution option (15k/30k) on many games but as you guessed it's emulated but does look good. Send me a PM with your mail address and I'll sort you out with the EMU. I can't get some iamges to work though. Strider will freeze after the first Stage and Garoundensetsu won't boot. Also some games need a special command to run (Konami games like Castlevania need one) so getting them to run is a pain. I'm pretty sure Dracula was just Dracula for the run command. Most games however will run fine. Also the best EMU will emulate all the different sound modes. I find the internal sound to be best all round though. Some smashing synth midi tunes from the likes of Konami and Wolfteam.

Yakumo, can I also get a copy of the EMU?

I've been looking for a way to at least sort of experience the legendary X68000. I'd kill for one of those. I love that computer experience from yesteryear.

    PM almost sent.

OK, for anyone after the EMU Google for WinX68kHighSpeed_eng That's the English patched version but I'm pretty sure you need a Japanese MS Gothic text font or so I remember reading. Japanese PCs have it as standard so I have no idea what happens if you don't have that font. Probably nothing to be honest. There are a few X68000 emulators out there, one of which is also pretty good (forgot the name) but yet again in Japanese. WinX68k High Speed is the best however with loads of options plus can convert your PC keyboard in to the X68000 keyboard.

Alternatively just go to http://www.jcec.co.uk/ , EX68 & XM6 are decent too and offer different compatibility but fo sho Win68k is best.

Ive never had any of the Garou games boot either :/

The command for Dracula X is DRAC and then you can select what music mode you want, i like them all hehe. Thats only on the HD image version, there is a standard disk version also that doesnt require messin, I have it if need.

Anyone ever get Chase HQ to work past the title screen??

So does Win68k have support for RGB monitors? Kind of necesasry for me... although I could run it on my other machine I suppose. I think I have some images around somewhere... but not really sure. Gotta hunt.

No idea since I run it on a TFT via digital input. It does have a scan line option only in 15htz if that's of any help. Best to download it and give it a spin or I'll send you a copy.

Will do. Right now though, my one video cable is acting dodgy, and I'm in the middle of an RPG on the PS2. So... not playing anything else until that's done. Takes like 2-3 minutes of fidgeting for it to work. :(

How much does a x68000 setup normally cost? I want to keep an eye out and buy one, without spending too much over the going value anyway heh

    What a pitty :(
Those x68000 boxes are the most sexy I've ever seen for any system !
And the games would have been so nice :(

I remember playing Garou on EX68 heavily patched a long time ago :p

I think it was a four disk image. I might have it on cd somewhere.

Btw, that x68000 sound dll was the killer on Dracula X.
