You don't need to remove the fans, just unplug them. The heat syncs do not have to be off.

Edit: Even if it does work for a while, the end result is going to be the same as it was with the "towel trick."

Well guys, i found the issue indeed, i removed both the GPU and CPU heat sinks, and found that the thermal paste has COMPLETLY dried up, there isnt even a smidge making contact with the heat sinks, i can almost see my ugly ass reflection in the mirror of the CPU thats how clean it is. So new thermal paste it is!! Haha thats why lt failed xD

i heard a while back that consoles simply boot to red rings if the motherboard sees the CPU/GPU heating up oddly quickly (quicker then normal) and it fails to boot, is that true? If so then i deffinitly found the case of the RROD. Needs new thermal, and thats about it, but like i said, this bitch is getting fitted with falcon heatsinks :)

Lets hope towel tricking it hasnt done any damage elsewhere. Now you know its thermal paste (told ya so :p), leave it until your ready to re gunk it or risk damaging it more or elsewhere.

Ive had the misfortune of having GPU errors reballed only for the error code to switch to another issue.

Best of luck and dont skimp on the gunk, you get what you pay for!

thanks! Is it true about the red ring just being a thermal paste issue? im gonna tear apart my falcon, remove the heatsinks and boot it, see if it gives red rings, that way ill know

Error 0102 is the main culprit for thermal paste issues, but 0110 can be at times too.

Xbox are like women, once we figure them out something else changes and goes wrong.

Without heat syncs your console will overheat almost immediately. Takes like 3 seconds.

Indeed, im saying the falcon booted to 2 rings, the devkit booted to 3, meaning the devkit needs a reflow as well as thermal paste -.- FUCK

Get a Reball if possible bud, and if you get a preference get some good old leaded solder balls. MS have to use the non leaded stuff which just not as good.

Reflows just reflows the existing solder on the board. Reballing involves removing the existing and renewing it all, so it will be a little more but in the long run a far better option.

Please stop doing any of the terrible "tricks." You are destroying the console. It is literally making me angry.

With that aside, what is the status on the kit? Tore down and heat sinks replaced with ones from a Falcon. Have you replaced thermal paste yet? If so, what was the result?

Those heat syncs shouldnt be super tight btw, you can stress the gpu/cpu if there too tight.
