Yeah hah, same one as always. Would be nice to have another of course, I do have that Ebay case on the way.
Going to keep the original how it is, its deserves to stay together. Will build a frankenalpha with the new one.
What was the difference between Alpha I and Alpha II? Just the front sticker and Video chip? Also noticed 250W PS on an Alpha 1 and a 300W PS on an Alpha II (needs confirmation)
Processor speed for some (some shipped with 600mhz processors, like mine. Might be only the real early ones that had the 600mhz, since the 733 was planned pretty early on too). Graphics card NV15->NV20. I believe it also added the USB sound card. It's really difficult to get confirmation on anything, and I hesitate to trust some of the old information. This is a picture that Old Engineer uploaded years ago *NSFW*
Do you have the NV15 Video Card in yours? How can you tell the difference of the NV15, NV20. Pics of your video card? My only guess is the NV15 didn't have the heatsinks on the ram chips and just the GPU.
On another note where is this old_engineer guy? He would be great to have around for all this and other Xbox related stuff we discuss.
Mines an NV20. Mine was upgraded at some point in its life. OE is gone. There was a falling out years ago so he disappeared. He made an occasional appearance after that, but it was never the same. Some info from back then has turned out to be wrong, so while he wasn't a perfect source, a lot of good info was lost when he left.
Yep. Like I said, kits were upgraded along the way. I dont think the 600mhz setup is very common though.
I was throwing all different video cards in my franken (GF2/3), most worked, I forget which didn't. Need to document that still
Kernel source that was recently resurfaced was 4400, Retail. one could try making it run on a Alpha but Im afraid its not easy to do, also the kernel probably is assuming audio to be done in the mcpx instead of a Audio ic on a AMR bus. Hexedit the kernel(for alpha pc) for a nearly identical version could be done, but one could remove audio aswell. but we want it to work so making a "clone" board with (nearly) identical ic looks easier. tltr: Nope, not gonna work. Kernel source too new and we would need to make it work on PC hardware anyway (lott of work).
I would love to get your pictures back, could host. Others here aswell. But yes, dont know what your information was wrong about. could be small, but I cant check anymore.
Primarily information in regards to building the alpha kit from scratch (which wasn't directly aimed at you anyway OE)
