Thanks. I'll make the Eagle PCB files available for free once I fix the issues. I'm also hoping to sell completed boards for the cost of parts. I had the same thought. Looking at the engineering sample card it doesn't seem like the bracket is connected to the ground: L1 and L3 are unpopulated. Perhaps that would help though, it's certainly indicated in the reference documentation. http://i60.tinypic.com/25aoj61.jpg
Wow, great work aspect. I definitely going for one of those. (we still need that original green, same size board I ques. But for soundplayback this is sweet (maybe better?))
Good golly, life sure gets in the way of working on projects. I'm able to run the Simpsons game and get audio out. Some audio comes out very cleanly, but some audio features prominent clicking. I'm more convinced it's a bit-rate negotiation issue rather than a noisy DC rail. At the moment the card has a WM9707 chip, which should behave identically to the WM9701. However, I have a consumer audio card with a sacrificial WM9701 chip that I'm going to attempt to harvest shortly. I'll see whether that makes any improvement.
(some people know my ways ) Im back kinda for the soundcard, Aspect, your doing nice ill take some info and try making a replicated board, a cheap fab only allows 10 by 10 so to keep as close to the original I would need another fab to make them, ill see what I can do, school took more than I expected and im still doing an internship (should have been finished) also got married (wow, thats also out of nowhere? ) so yes, my github reflects the state im in, but AG is back online and im going to (slowly) clean and update the github as I go further (did some mcpx research and chihiro) will buy a "aspect" card anyway
Glad to see that you both are still doing work on this! Will be interesting to find out what is causing those clicks.
I really would love to see these cards up for sale one day. I'm trying to build an Alpha Tower myself this summer once I get a job... lol!
So all my soldering tools are broken (have access to a working one). but @BrAlZy You can already start, it runs the dash and maybe with some hackery run a game (samples run just fine without soundcard)
Bump. Any update on this and/or franken alphas in general? Just read all of the threads around this as far as I can tell. I wish it could run run a retail kernel/dash/game.
If there is enough interest in a rebuild off the cart i would gladly recreate it. Should have all the infos i need avaylable to get it done. I guess a direct rebuild off the original Layout as seen in the datasheet would be ideal. Don't know what the final price for the populated cart would be but i would try to get it as close to the original as possible. Is there still any interest?
Aspect was working on a PCB, think he was working out some kinks in the audio playback. I'd definitely need one for my NOS tower. =)
