    Does the serial number match?

    Regardless, it does happen sometimes.

I mean, you can check the serial on the dash too. Dev units are strange in that they will use whatever they had

He's asking about the serial number found within the dashboard, not the other values.

You can use XBMC or AvaLaunch I think to view hardware information, but why even bother? Maybe it was refurbished in 2004 by MS before being sent out to a developer.
If you're really curious, what are the dates of the plastics? Should be a circle with an arrow pointed to the month with the year one each side. 0|1 would be 2001, etc.

The serial number matches the one from the case sticker.

Looks like a rebuilt unit - in that photo of the label, you can read some of the chip date codes, and they are all 2002 (0217. 0219, 0225) - the second 2 digits are the week, so they line up pretty well with the rest of the internal parts. My guess is that it was originally built mid 2002, then sent back to MS and rebuilt with new plastics in 2004.

I agree. The silver decal over the top of the screw hole, has in my personal experience, meant it's been pierced by MS for official repair or refurbishment. I think it's simply been a repaired unit.
