After beating my proverbial head against the wall searching for a solution, I'm sure I already know the answer that's coming, but I figured I would still ask...after all, can't hurt, right? Does XBHDM support Xbox hard drives via USB (once successfully unlocked) at all? I'm currently attempting to fix a softmod where my client had gone and tried to free up space by deleting EVERYTHING on the C partition, resulting in an error 16. After doing some experimentation with the system, I decided to unplug the DVD drive and boot the console, which resulted in an error 12. This told me that the drive was still unlockable, just has nothing to boot from via the C partition. Unfortunately, I no longer have any PCs with an IDE interface built-in to the motherboard, so I'm unable to use XBHDM to rebuild the C partition. I have a functioning secondary softmodded Xbox, but I doubt that will help the situation. If anyone has any advice, I'm all ears. Thank you!
reasons like this are always why I recommend anyone who works on xbox systems to have atleast one good Solderless modchip solution to be able to easily repair a softmodded system if someone decides to start fiddling with the files. I don't believe XBHDM supports USB at all. If the xbox will boot a retail disc maybe you can use something like Halo 2 to "upgrade" the dashboard for xbox live. If the dash files aren't present maybe that will get the system going again?
Can you recommend a good solderless modchip? No dice when I try to launch a game, still get an error 16. Checking around Craigslist now for an old-arse Pentium IV class machine that I could snag up for use with with XBHDM.
Update for anyone who is/was interested: I managed to get my hands on an old DELL desktop with IDE ports, and hotswapping after throwing the system into an error 12 was a total breeze. As I suspected, my client had deleted the C partition to free up more space for additional software. After restoring the partition via Xbox HDM, the system came back to life as if nothing had ever happened. Reapplied the softmod (this time taking a moment to backup the EEPROM), updated the emulators and will be taking the system back to him on Friday!
XboxHD23USB Beta 2 https://sourceforge.net/projects/xboxhdm2/files/xboxhdm23usb/Beta/ If you ever need to fix a drive again without the eeprom. That version works inside windows and with IDE/SATA to USB adaptors.
