    Xbox was pretty much a thing real early on. They tried to change it, it just didnt happen.

    They were Dell PCs apparently. If you're talking about mock up state?

    Does anyone know what size the hard drive was in this xbox. When I boot it says 4.3gb free. I don't have a controller yet. Buying one on Friday.

    so that means there must be something on there or is that taken by the software?

    If there was a bootable game, you'd see it on the list of executables. You may have some left over assets, or cache files hanging about. Probably not much as 4.3GB is around usable size.

    wish the dev kits would show up where I live.. I haven't been able to find one yet.

    The boxes had a preformatted disc with 3x700mb allocated to game cache folders (part of the contents of the last 3 games played was cached to HD to get better loading times), so thats already 2.1gb gone. Then comes the boot partition which was afaik around 100mb or something, plus another partition for game saves and music etc. The drives were actually mostly 10gb or 20gb, but formatted to 8gb. Only the first boxes really had 8gb drives in them (mine from Mexico p.ex. did), later retail units in Europe had larger cheap drives.
    4.3gb of free space sounds about right for a "virgin" console.
