Have this clear prototype in my possession, how can you tell what model it is. Have seen on ebay a dvt-4 but this has a date of Aug 2001.

    Any help appreciated...

Looks like a DVT-4 to me.
As far as I know, they all have the prototype stickers on them. Mine does.

DVT4. August 2001 is the first shipping DVT4 units to devs. They are prototype units since they havent been approved by the government. Others from later do not have those stickers.

They are the first of the retail units. Beta units and alphas were before it. Actually, the proto DVT4s seem to be just as common or more common than the non-prototype ones.

Most of the consoles that I have seen have had the proto stickers, which lead me to believe that they all originally had the stickers and some owners had just removed them.
    Thanks for the info.

Na, its just the early units. Ive had a few units with more standard stickers, including one that is still sitting on my shelf. Its all a matter of when they were made :)

Ram a screwdriver in that silver sticker and start unscrewing it VERY slowly. Video it and put it on YouTube for us all to see. Do a slow-mo of it piercing it for the first time!

Just out of curiosity, does the console happen to contain any game data?

Double check the voltage if you're in the US, etc.

Well to be fair, all these DVTs will have to be opened up at some point.

Since it's an early one that would have had those Cooper aerogel caps in it, it's quite likely destroyed already.

I don't think any such thing exists - the alpha devkits were produced well before there was any production hardware, and they had "xbox" on them. It could well be that the name "xbox" arrived before there was any hardware at all.
