I can see that being so true. XBOX is going nowhere in Japan and has been like that for quite some time. You can pick up a used XBOX for only a little more than a used Dreamcast these days. Pretty sad really.

Come to think of it....When I was in Tokyo I did see an abundance of second hand X-boxes.....but very few of other consoles....and teh X-box game sections were very limited ^_^

<joke> I kindof want to buy an X-box......but I already have a bunch of low spec PCs :smt040 </joke>

    Re: sorry

I own an Xbox, but I take no offense to that. Microsoft made the console WAY too big :smt027 .

I used to joke around with my dad about having to rent a forklift when I bought my Xbox :axe: .

    re

I don't quite get it either. There are downsides like any console (size and shape being the primary ones), but it seems to have some upsides as well (being it doesn't BREAK after six months).

I know what you mean, I love the XBOX, and at least they support 2D games unlike a ceartain company I know of, *cough* sony *cough*. I got Metal Slug 3 for the XBOX the other day, and I have to say that I love it. It is one of the best games of all time. I am glad that Microsoft has the balls to support awesome 2D games from SNK, and I am looking forword to SNK vs. Capcom SvC Chaos and Metal Slug 4 and 5 for the XBOX as well.

Yakumo you should buy them, drop a mod chip in and then sell them on ebay for $300.

  15. Err, how do you figure? Metal Slug 3, SVC:Chaos, GGXX, and a whole slew of 2D games have been sitting pretty on the PS2 for a while now. I personally think it was a grave mistake to release MS3 here on the XBox, as the average Xbox gamer is usually one of the "graphics over gameplay" sods we all know and loathe. I'm not attempting to start a flamewar here or get all fanboy or anything (I'm not much of a PS2 fan, TBH) but I hardly think that XBox could be said to be "supporting 2d games."

And I think the reason that most people hate the XBox is that it's a rather miserable system. It's huge, the controllers are huge, and come on, when you think "XBox game library", the things that pop into most peoples' heads are Halo, football, and the bouncing jubblies from DOA:XVB. The software lineup is VERY American in its emphasis on style over substance, and I just find everything about the system to be very hyped up, cool-jock-with-a-pretty-game-system sort of feel.

As always, these are mere opinions, if there are any diehard fans out there. And it is indeed a shame that Panzer Dragoon Orta is only released on XBox... :smt022

The reason everything outsells the x-box in japan is because the entire machine breathes american from every angle.
There isn't one game styled for the japanese, no big RPG's or japanese style games at all (okay maybe the bouncing boobs from DOA beach volleyball )

Yeah, X-box needs to cater more to it's Japanese audience if it ever wants to succeed there.

I'm kind of happy to see it doing ok over here in the states, as there hasn't been an American game system that was worth anything since the Colecovision in my opinion.

Yes, it does have the graphics over gamplay problem. I have been thinking of getting one for hacking purposes, plus being able to run emulators from the hard drive, etc. I read in 2600 about a guy who turned his into an FTP server. If they ever get cheap enoguh I'll pick one up. But for now, I'm sticking with the GC.

With this generation of systems being so close to each other in performance there really aren't that many plus or minuses aside from either the aesthetics or games themselves for that system. The Xbox isn't any different or that bad of a system and has it's purpose like all the other systems I own. Since the Xbox doesn’t have as many exclusive titles like the PS2 and Gamecube have it's what I buy all the multi system titles for since it has a slight edge in graphics. I also think the S-type controller is one of the better controllers made. Much better than the (flame away) Dreamcast or Gamecube controller. The Xbox really shines though if you're into modding. The system has been a hackers dream.

I think the xbox is a hugely exciting console and when Yakumo gets back I am going to make the plunge and by one.
The xbox live service has really taken off and is the first time networking games has had massmarket penetration. They made alot of mistakes in japan that cannot be undone now.I think they would have sold millions more consoles if a) They had made a smaller revised unit similar to what Sony done with the psone and b) Had signed up some Rpg's to the format(a reason why Nintendo is also having mediocre success in Japan since the Nintendo 64).

Hopefully next time around MS will get it right in the market as I think they are one of the freshest companies in this industry and are willing to experiment and throw their full weight behind everything they do.Sega has also released some utterly class games on the system of xbox such as JSRF,PDO,Shenmue 2,and a couple of others.Tecmo's Ninja gaiden is also a stunning peice of software and the upgrade for it seems to be an idea with alot of imagination and only possible cause of the inclusion of an HDD.

I know many of you will disagree with me but I feel MS shot themselves in the foot from the word go in Japan.

MS3 on PS2, hmm... I have not seen it. Maybee that is because I live in a little place called AMERICA! It may have been released on the PS2 in Japan, but in the good ol' USA, it was released on the XBOX. XBOX may not be supporting 2D outright, but they are doing a way better job of it than Sony is here, in America. Oh, and why is it a shame that Panzer Dragoon Orta was released on XBOX, hmm? I think is was a good choice for Sega to put Panzer Dragoon on the XBOX. In fact, Sega has had big support for XBOX since it launched. Panzer Dragoon, JSRF, Sega GT 2002, Shenmue II just to name a few. Yes the XBOX is so very miserable, and they have a line up of the worst games ever, I mean, who would want to play Knights of the Old Republic (Game of the Year), Ninja Gaiden, Steel Battalion, Mech Assualt, Halo (another Game of the Year) Panzer Dragoon, Metal Slug 3, Splinter Cell, and the many more horrible games for the worst system ever? I know it sounds crazy, but i actually like the XBOX controller (the controller s). It feels more solid than any of the other contollers, and I find it similar to the Dreamcast controller, which is a good thing.
