Hey all, I've just registered to this forum as I've acquired an Xbox 360 sdk however I never realised quite what it was so I did not pick up the power supply, I figured it was an ordinary fat Xbox with some modded hdd on the side so was going to use one of the supply's I had at home. When I try to use the 203w supply the light stays red and the 175w supply stays Amber with no signs of life on the Xbox. Am I going to need to buy one of the original sdk supplies to get this thing running?
To actually use the XDK with sidecar attachment you will need one of the 213w power supply's that originally came with it. Did you buy this online or at some thrift store or something?
New pic https://postimg.org/image/qlvdo5i9j/ So could I test the Xbox if I removed the sidecar? I'm guessing it means opening it all up and disconnecting every wire?
You could test it that way. Where are you located someone on here might live near you that has a 213w psu to test it.
I live in the uk mate, I will search for one online but don't want to spend money unless I know the Xbox works without the sidecar first
just an update, the xbox works fine if i disconnect the red power lead to the sidecar so is anyone on here selling a power supply? another question is that i want a much larger hdd in this thing so once i have removed it what tool is best on the pc to read and backup the drive?
I don't remeber off the top of my head what the program is called but I know @Borman will be able to help you back up the HDD.
Thanks Charels, i can read the hdd with party buffalo but im unsure of the correct way to get everything onto the new drive so i will wait for a reply, i am in no rush as i need the psu before i can power the sidecar
360 is as easy as installing the SDK and moving said contents from HDD to computer through the neighborhood app. SDKs sadly can't be posted here however one should be easy to find online.
He can just use a normal hdd adapter with the hdd if he has one. To elaborate I mean if he is going to upgrade the hdd anyway he will need to open the sidecar. So in the meantime using the normal hdd connector wouldn't be a bad idea just to get files off.
so if take apart an ordinary 360 hdd and put the xdk drive into it then the xbox will read it fine? if so what is the use of the sidecar? i already have the sidecar open and the drive connected to my laptop
The sidecar has debugging functions. But yes, just pop it in a retail HDD shell, that's the safest way. I don't really trust the PC tools all that much.
cool thanks borman, do i still have to use a wd drive for the upgrade or could i put an ssd in there as i have a 256gb one lying around somewhere
I doubt an ssd is worthwhile in it, but on dev units just about any drive should be compatible. But id focus on backing up whatever is on the drive from the side car first
where abouts on the drive would anything good be hiding? i see some game files in content folder but file sizes are small
