With the new "hack" coming out soon to everyone...Well almost everyone...Will the ability to run unsigned code on a regular xbox 360 after its "hacked" mean that if one had the SDK it would be almost the same as a devkit? Or am I missing something? Is this why I see alot more devkits being sold lately? Cause the owners have the foresight to know that they will not be worth nearly as much after the hack is out?
    Thanks

Kinda, apparently there was a rebooter released today, At this moment I do not think that the kernel has been hacked publicly to allow playing unsigned code. The hack has been out just not a cracked dash, once that is complete and easier for the masses to do then I would say it should be enough to allow people to run unsigned code, hopefully blocking access to pnet and live though.

So this is gonna make an actual devkit or debug kit obsolete? Or will there still be things that a devkit can do? Like hooking up to a computer with the sidecar?
Sorry if its a obvious answer...

Well the kits will most likely always be better then a hacked retail, unless they go crazy with retails, I dont think you'll see a completly working sidecar on a retail anytime soon or at all for that matter, it's just for dvd emu now mainly. Good thing about the jaspers are that their on board NAND is big enough to hold a dev kernal if needed.

well devs will always be coveted by colectors

& dvd emu/pix will be for devs since retails don't have sidecars, not to mention partner net :)

Pretty soon a hacked retail might be on par with a dev, minus a few things that a dev can do that the retails can't. This could allow for others to dev on the console with out having to spend the cash on a dev kit to run their code.

    its on the homepage

    >> Ikari released the first version of 'freeBOOT' for xenon (v1) and falcon (v3) consoles with JTAG/SMC-Hack.

This 'rebooter' will allow you to 'reboot' the 360 into an MS kernel after starting it with the JTAG Hack ... in this case (freeBOOT v0.01) it should reboot the console into MS kernel 8498 (but I assume 8507 will be possible too, and it's probably also the first step into rebooting into patched/modified MS kernels).
The readme says it requires the Cygnos360 v2 chip atm, I'm assuming they need it to automatically reset the SMC back to original.

Booting your 360 into 849x+ and keeping the JTAG Hack working was impossible until now, because updating to 849x+ via the MS update procedures burned a CB-fuse which made it impossible to still perform the JTAG Hack. If you already updated your console to 849x+ via normal update methods there is still no solution for you, but if you have a JTAG 'hackable' console (kernel 7371 or lower on NAND) freeBOOT should allow you to 're boot' it into 8498 via the JTAG Hack (using 'virtual fuses').

Nope I already have 2 Jaspers with 7371. One is the 256mb and one is a 512mb.
So the big thing is. Will this hack allow a person to run the same SDK or dash thtat the devkit/debug kits do? Or will that still be something that we wont be able to do?

Technically speaking you can run whatever dash you want, but most people will probably prefer a hacked retail dash, even though i wouldn't mind running a dev kernel on a retail just to check it out, I wonder if at the top left it will say Xbox Retail Kit. Haha, jk.

Your so funny, but anyways were still a little long from that, seeing as how the dev nand is 64mb. The only way I can see this working is with a jasper unit, but really No one knows.

Oh boy, I just happen to have 2 Jaspers. Now I just have to wait till they release the JTAG hack for them...

Theres video of a falcon booting this.

As for what MTW said about the jasper, I would normally agree, but since he said it won't be soon then that means it's probably about to happen, or he has no idea. Seeing as how he once said that the hack never would come out, and once it did he said that it would never boot a retail kernel.

But any way, jasper would be cool I guess, not really worried, I've got plenty of consoles to test it on.

You're right. I remember reading another thread where MTWomg said a bunch of stuff would never see the light of day...only to see it released shortly after...
Thanks for the Headsup MTWomg...I'll keep an eye out for it.

Jasper hack is not coming out, not now or ever.

I am still right btw, just because you can go into the latest unmodified MS kernel changes nothing, this retail hack is just as useless as it has always been.

    Go leak something else.

I wish we had the fucking edit ability here. Change "latest" to "an umodified MS kernel".
