Hooo. I have two Mac-flashed ATi X800 and a couple of G5 ready for this task (The G5s have all 8 DIMMs populated, 8GB RAM total for each) Tomorrow I donate some $ for this project. Btw if someone want to build a franken alpha, I can help flashing GPUs to openfirmware. HDD needs to be forced into SATA-I mode too, most stock SATA-III don't work in a G5
im gunna donate myself soon most likely just donate the remaining amount to just get this out there asap
Reminder that gofundme takes a large percentage of what is gained. Paypal's is a lot less and is more ideal.
well thats 400usd towards the project hopefully that gets the ball moving towards a release happy holidays
only 228 cad more to go guys, this ones gonna be down to the wire. adjusted the GFM to reflect, if you'd rather make a PP donation send me a pm and I'll send the info.
Which PC X800 card are you using? Not every card will be compatible, I could get my Sapphire X800 Pro flashed to work in OSX but it would refuse to boot the Xenon OS even with a 128KB ROM.
we did it guys ! we hit the goal ! thanks to syclopse, of all people. just joking. release within the next couple days fellas, its been great!
I'll try a HP ATi FireGL X3 flashed to X800 with a reduced 64kb rom. My hopes are that gpu drivers in xenon OS are based on stock ATi thus adding missing firmware parts on the fly after boot up, like osx does with proper vendor drivers installed. Why it shouldn't work beside reduced roms, ven_id , dev_id check?
The reduced ROMs are confirmed working as stated on the wiki. Just make sure you get a FireGL X3 with Samsung VRAM. The Infineon cards showed some serious artifacting unless they were downclocked heavily. https://www.xenonwiki.com/FrankenXenon#Graphics_Card_Info_Table I'm not entirely sure why the X800 Pro wouldn't work. It has a 128KB EEPROM and was running the same ROM as the real X800 XT perfectly in OSX. It might have to do with how the video connections are wired on my specific model to the ASIC or perhaps it's just the silicon lottery showing it's ugly face again. My X800 Pro was also a 4a49 device ID which is different from all the other cards.
yup on the wiki it outlines what kind of vid and pid you need to change to, so long as you have samsung ram it should work great, heck even without sammy ram it still works, but artifacts unless downclocked to like 279mhz memclock. like alpha says up above, reduced rom works.
Unfortunatly my cards are infineon (maybe all HP are), but I know the exact clock speed for proper operation without artifacts. Keep core stock, reduce memory down to 279Mhz. No risk to burn the card anymore, performance is still good. That wiki is very helpful, Thanks for the link, I see you guys have knowledge. Thats great, some fresh stuff. Dont worry. I got some good ppc experience. Lets get that xenon OS running Currently here are two G5 fitted with that flashed HP X3 variant already, running osx leopard daily.
Not all HP cards are Infineon, My 109-A30131-10 cards are Samsung cards whereas @bowser22 's 109-A30131-10 cards are Infineon. Exact same card, sticker and all but different VRAM and no way to identify from an ebay pic. All of the 109-A30131-00 cards that we have encountered have been Samsung cards. Unfortunately, it may come down to luck of the draw unless the sellers are willing to check the cards for you. We were hoping to have a way to identify these cards but it doesn't look like that's the case. The only thing worth mentioning is that the 109-A30131-10 cards had green serial labels on the back whereas the 109-A30131-00 cards had white labels.
