SAL is a good option for Europeans. It seems to work just as well as EMS but not as fast. I didn't use it much in the past but I use it a lot now and I'm getting more comfortable with it.

The insurance is the tricky part....it changes for each country. Most people probably don't know that you can't get insurance on SAL packages to Canada, Germany, Brazil, or the UK. A lot of post offices didn't know it either until Japan Post went private and started following the rules a bit better.

Also, you can only get insurance for AIR/SAL/SEA if you take the package to a main post office. If you take it to a neighborhood post office then they can't add insurance. No clue why. That might have changed with the recent changes with Japan Post, tho.

This was like that before. The slips have an insurance part on it, but my local post office told me I'd have to drag ass up to the big fucker in Shibuya to insure it. Basically sucks the value out for anyone that wants insurance added as it'll add about 1000 yen to the shipping (taxi fee).

Must be a Tokyo thing, Gaijin Punch. I use a few different post offices down here including small tinny ones in Kyushu where Eric lives yet never have a problem insuring stuff.

Ditto, just sent a big package via SAL to australia and again had no problems with insurance in the tiny post office down the road.

A lot of times in Japan it depends on where you take the package. A lot of Japan Post staff aren't aware of the rules, so they'll just glance at the insurance you wrote and handle the package like it's not there.

When I used the small post office near me I used to always send SAL with insurance until a new lady arrived and explained the rules to me. From that point on that post office didn't accept it.

And up until about 2 months ago I would write it on the labels when the post office would come to my shop to pick things up. Since the pick-up service goes to the main post office I could include insurance. Everything went through until recently. Now they check their little scanner thingy to see if insurance is available to that country. If it's not, they ask me to write a new label.

    Depends on who's asking...heh.

Get this one ! Today I sent a Wondermega by SAL with insurance and guess what they wanted me to do!? The asked me to write my address "Tekito" (In a rough way) on EVERY side of the box. I was like, What the F*ck for? then was swiftly told to look in the rule book! I told them I sent insured stuff every week from this post office as they dam well know but they just said, these are the rules.

I tell you, ever since the Japanese post office changed to the JP GROUP they've been coming out with new Bull Shit every week. Only a few weeks back I was told they couldn't give me any EMS forms and that I had to fill them out in the post office ! I basically said that was stupid and got a set of 20

The girls at mine give me stacks of them, still wrapped in plastic (about 50). She must want in my pants.

My best one so far is my mother sent me some crap from the US, valued at $37.00 USD. He told me the package was chakubarai, and with an extremely blank look, said, "3700 yen?!". I looked at the package, and was like, "no dumbass...."

Yeah, finding a complete Undercover Cops is very hard. Every one on Yahoo for the last 6 months has been a cart only and EVERY ONE has gone for 8000 yen or more ! GS Mikami is another that seems to never have a box or instructions. Luckily I found mine on Yahoo complete with next to no bids for some very odd reason while ones with out boxes had loads of bids!?!

Maybe it had a very poor describtion? I couldn't explain it otherwise... TryRush Deppy for Saturn also goes for more than 6000yen usually but I once saw a bundle of 5 sealed Saturn games (including TryRush) selling for 4500 although it was well advertised.

There was a complete one recently.

EDIT: Well, not recently. Was at the end of September, and according to my records finished for 15,600.

There was? Bugger, I missed that one but for 15,600 yen I probably would have passed. I was playing this the other day and still find the soundtrack to be kick-ass for a SFC game.

As for Try-Rush Dippy going for 6000 odd, that's bloody mad. I got mine for 300 yen  I guess it must be becoming one of those titles that slipped under the radar originally.
