It is not a complete unknown item for some, there is a Japanese Castlevania site someplace with a few pictures of it, it was were I first saw it. First time I ever saw it for sale though and think maybe price reflects how rare it is.

hehe the Japanese spent billions on American real estate in the 80s. The least they can do is let us have the random $3,000 video game every now and then. And don't even get me started on Gibson or Fender guitars...

It's only going that high because some asshat outside of Japan is using a proxy service that's bumping up the price. You could probably get that for about 8000 yen in Mandrake or the likes of.

Welcome to the world of proxy bidding. At 178 cm high it's too long EMS, AIR, SAL, or SEA. FedEx, DHL, and UPS will essentially make a plane ticket and personal pick-up more reasonable.

    Good luck with that...

You called? Ah that system was made by Nichibutsu it worked by selecting a track for the CD-i to play then streaming the video or image to the board, the board used a V9938 MSX 2 graphics chip which easily overlaid the game over the video or pictures. The games themselves aren't too hard to find, however the hardware and the CD-i are a bit more tricky, I believe that the CD-i has a modified BIOS so you can't use a standard CD-i system and the CDs don't wotk on normal cd-i systems. It lasted about 4 years in the middle to late 90s before they went onto the DVD format.

As a side note, Nihon Bussan are now defunct due to their main market of arcade mahjong games (that's all they seemed to make from the late 90s onwards....) dried up, however if you go to www.nichibutsu.co.jp it does seem to go to an intresting website... especially as no one except registered Japanese companies can own .co.jp addresses...

Back to the CD-i, before DVD it did do quite well in it's niche markets of POS, Instructional videos, educational materials, training materials, etc. Even ran a modified version of OS/9 (that's Microwares OS/9 not Apples pathetic OS-9).
