Also it's the US 360 crowd clamouring for a Shenmue 3. Yakuza is as close to Shenmue as it gets. So Demographic wise again...stupid not to port it to 360 for the US. Then again THIS IS Sega they don't know their head from their ass these days.
The US online people are clamoring for it, I ask just about any 'standard 360 gamer' on campus, both in London and locally, along with people at home, and they say Shenmue what? Admittedly, not huge number which I critisized you for, but I acknowledge that, and do have a bit wider of a range. And Carnivol, I totally used HD crowd very, very loosely hahaha. By that, I mean Wii owners who own a PS3 as well (since who doesnt own a Wii? Mostly sarcastic btw, though not entirely )
Shenmue is a cult game but in a way the 360 is a cult system though the 360 is in my opinion the only system offering something for everyone right now. again not to say the 360 is superior as first party Microsoft games lack the polish of Sony's offerings or mainstream disney like timlessness Nintendo has.
I don't think we've seen a game developed originally on ps3 then get a 360 port, except for FF 13, which sort of counts even though both ports aren't out yet. As much as I'm looking forward to Yakuza 3, its not the best game graphically. I played the demo on japan psn, and the movement is alittle clunky. It was probably rushed to production using assets from the PS2 yakuza games. Unless they revamped the whole thing graphically, the 360 fanboys would probably complain that its not made with the unreal engine etc even if it was ported. I think Sony needs more exclusives anyway, and this is a good one.
Saying all PS3 owners are just graphics whores is like saying all 360 owners are just closet homosexuals who want to be taken roughly from behind by Master Chief. It's a completely pointless and insulting statement.
Yakuza is certainly reminiscent of Shenmue, at least I can accept that. However it is hardly a good comparison, as in my opinion Yakuza, as far as gameplay is concerned is a lot more fun. Can't wait to finally have an English translation see the light of day. It seems like ages since I finished Yakuza 2.
Shenmue was introspective, stately, and bored the general public to tears. It's my very favorite Dreamcast game, but I totally understand why it didn't succeed at retail. By comparison, Yakuza is full of sex and violence and has Dwight Schultz and Eliza Dushku. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that Yakuza is the game that everybody *wanted* Shenmue to be. Those two games certainly have their differences, but I don't have any problem with the observation that they're cut from the same philosophical cloth.
I'm thinking they're not gonna make a lot of money from this. If the first two did poorly, this one probably will as well.
And an amazingly clunky & horrible fighting engine. The first one, anyway. I heard they improved it by the second, but I was duped once by the public. Fool me once you can't fool me again.
I had no problem with the fighting engine, but I was already used to it from playing both Spikeout games previously. That's not to say that your observation is invalid, since Sega didn't do anything but transfer the system straight in from the arcade games. They should have worked harder on making it more seamlessly part of the new game, and they should have made an effort to win people over to it with better inventory management or some sort of tutorial. I don't remember combat being that big a part of the game. On the other hand, I'm probably the only person in the world who played Yakuza for the narrative.
Yeah, but some posts by certain people are like watching a car crash. As horrible as they might be, I can't look away.
I will admit that it was the first game in years that had an adventure part whose story didn't make me vomit.
