Whaaa?! It's like one of the best 2-player 2D platformers I've *EVER* played! Then again, it's probably no fun on your own. So either you haven't played it properly, or you have no friends... :smt009 Yeah, Treasure aren't like the BESTEST GUYS EVAR. I didn't like Alien Soldier, and I found Ikaruga and Bagaioh too confusing/hard. But they made some of the best games I've ever played - Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy definately being in my top 10 of Mega Drive games. I think I might have played Guardian Heroes on the Saturn - I'm not sure exactly, it was many moons ago - but whatever it was, it was bitchin'!
You're just too young to appreciate it Really though, it's easily among the best games on the Megadrive, you'd be foolish not to appreciate that. Or is this some brand of humour my British mind can't comprehend... I didn't go for Alien Soldier that much either, too many boss fights. Ikaruga was fantastic, though - you do need to stick with it for a good few hours, mind, the more you play the easier it gets (the more hours you spend playing it, the more continues you get).
Yeah, maybe I should try Ikaruga again. I only played it for like 5 minutes at my friend's house - I give up too easily at some games...
That reminds me of that guy that played through Rapid Reload about 7 times in a single day (he made a funny website about that) just to find out if it was made by Treasure... as that is listed nowhere, apparently.
I always had a feeling that rapid reload was by Treasure due to it's similarities to Gunstar Heroes. Yakumo
There were a LOT of people confused about Rapid Reload/Gunners Heaven, but it's apparently just a really, really well done imitation by a Sony second-party. Although if you ask me, it needed a 2P mode to truely imitate GH. Treasue has had some flops, but overall they remain one of my favorite developers, if only for their boldness to sometimes go where others fear to tread. Sometimes it works (Gunstar Heroes) and sometimes it doesn't (Stretch Panic) but in my opinion, they are one of the few remaining consistently innovative companies today. Zilog Jones, if you're able to I'd HIGHLY recommend trying to get a hold of Sin & Punishment on the N64 - it's arguably one of Treasure's best games.
Treasure sure made some baf games, like every other compagnies, but they made some Incredible games, more than one time, and that cannot be denied. treasure's one of my favorite game compagny, i don't know them for much time (in fact, i discovered they existed when i bought my copy of Guardian Heroes three months ago ( i played gunstar heroes when i was youger (damn, i loved and still love this game!) , but i didn't know who was behind this fabulous game) since then, i re-enjoyed gunstar heroes, gardian Heroes and gradius 5. i'm still searching for a mint ikaruga for my lonely game cube and i'm now hearing from the voice of GSL that sins and punishements, a game i never played before, was one of treasure's treasure (did you saw that subtility here? ). their works are stunning,. they made some (1, 2 , 3?) bad games , right, but other than that...
Yes! The Treasure flame wars have been started! Woohoo! In all seriousness, I did think Gunstar Heroes was pretty bland and rather boring. I much prefer Metal Slug to Gunstar Heroes.
Compile never had the resources to publish themselves, and ended up as the disposable mistress of the entire industry. They were Sega's favourite concubine, but also had close ties to Hudson, Irem, Naxat, Pony and a whole lot of other dead companies. Tracing Compile's history is a real patchwork.
yeah but the point is that there name is conspicuously hidden for some strange reason. Usually you'd see something on or before the title screen, manual, box, or something. The game might not've been Sylphia, but I'm pretty sure it was for something on the PC-Engine.
The only 'flame war' that I really see here is the one that you and a few others seem bound and determined to start; I think the obvious fanatics are carrying themselves rather well, and nobody seems to be going out of line whatsoever on a subject that has been proven around the intarweb to invoke some very heated discussion. Cahaz: Guardian Legend - assuming this is the game you meant - was on the NES and developed by Compile, not Treasure. In all honesty, while the Gamecube version of Ikaruga might be more accessable in North American, I'm of the opinion that the Dreamcast version is better - the visuals seem sharper, the Gamecube version seems prone to occasional slowdown, and then there's my nitpicky personal bias about Japanese text being flat-out removed by Atari instead of translated. If you're just looking for a copy of Ikaruga, get the Gamecube one, but if you want the better version (and are unable to afford a NAOMI GD-ROM setup ) get the DC version. As for information on Sin & Punishment, it was one of Treasure's 3 N64 games (along with Bangaioh and the underrated Mischief Makers/Yuke Yuke! Troublemakers); here's IGN's review of it, which for once I agree with. The big thing that makes the game a must-import is the fact that all the voice acting is in English (except for the damn ending text!!) - not beautifully acted English by any means, but you can definately enjoy the game for gameplay's sake AND for the story without knowing Japanese.
GSL: woops! my mistak,e i wanted to say Guardian Heroes, not Guardian Legend! hehe, i'm going to reapir my mistake. and thx for the informations about the 3 games treasure published on n64 and ikaruga GC. But why the hell did they scrap that text anyway? it's not like it was though to translate, at least they could have just let it like it was in is original version. that's just plain stupid! Anyway, i don't really like buying on internet, so i'll stick with the game cube version for a time, sadly. BTW, for those who are seeing a flamewar here, stop taking acid!
im guessing that the reason the text wasnt translated was atari didnt belive it was important to the game and only felt they needed to do minimal translation, or nintendos quality issues got in the way since i remember them saying they had to translate it to nintendos likeing, but even then the way nintendo is now they dont really care much what is being said in the games.
