I hope there isn't a similiar thread like this already.
What are the easiest fixes you have ever done hardware wise ?
For me it was a Nintendo 3DS. It was listed as broken, because you couldn't turn it on. I got it for a good deal and I realized one of the charger port pins was bent. I took a pen and bent it right back. It charges and works without any problems.

I got given a Super Famicom that "wouldn't turn on" - because they were trying to use it with a PAL SNES power supply, which outputs AC.

When I used the correct PSU, it was working perfectly - although I guess it was lucky it didn't damage it.

Perhaps the person who gave you the console was miss-leaded on yahoo (i think that's where the Japanese or Asian equivalent of ebay is) or was a noob on electronics and only knew he/she needed a power cable for it

They didn't know much about electronics - what basically happened was that the console had been bought over from Japan, and they then blew up the Japanese power supply (which is designed to operate on 100V AC) by plugging it into Hong Kong mains (which is 230V, like the UK). So they got a 230V PAL SNES power supply, found the plug wouldn't fit, cut the cable and swapped the plugs over - still didn't work.

At this point, they decided they had damaged it, and got another complete PAL SNES system - but their Japanese games didn't work in it, since the Japanese systems have the NTSC lockout chip in them. So I ended up being asked to modify the SNES so that it would work with Japanese games, too. After I gave them the modded console back, they asked me if I had any use for a broken Super Famicom, since they were just going to throw it away.

I once had a Wii that wouldn't power up (black screen). I dismantled it, didn't found the problem, then put it back together and it works like a charm ever since. I had 2 remaining screws once it was done, so I even got 2 screws out of it!

Bought an Xbox 360 slim for £10 which wouldn't switch on. Cracked it open and it turned out it was a tiny capacitor on the power switch board, it got roasting hot!! replaced it and still been working everyday since

I bought a PS2 listed as not working but it worked fine. I extracted a human hair from a disc motor to be sure. And second is a DS Lite. 2 inductors broke physically after fall. Replaced them and it is working fine.

    Xbox X3 with X3CP v1.1 for 60.00, removed the +5v meant for the X3 on a v1.6. Works great.

Sony PS2 fat; picked up as broken/repair, it powered-on, but would not output video/sound. Disassembled and noticed someone had attempted to mod it. Bad soldering with bridged connections. I used some soldering braid to clean it up and it works fine. I still have it and use it.. about 8-9 years ago.

Was given a laptop by a lady on craigslist, her children dropped it and the corner was cracked, screen wouldn't come on. I tore it apart and the only problem was the ribbon cable from the screen to the mainboard was unplugged, worked right after that.

Funniest fix for me was my grandfather had a ps2 and one of my young cousins broke it by snapping the tray the disc sits on in half, I fixed it with super glue, epoxy, and sanding it smooth. It still works perfectly today.

Another easy one was I got a ps3 controller off ebay for $15, the guy said the buttons would randomly not work. All I did was tore it apart cleaned the contacts and used electric tape to make sure the ribbon cable from the buttons to the board stopped moving and it works fine now. It was almost brand new condition, too.

probably a 3D0 FZ-1 which i bought for parts, only to find the reason it didn't work was a disc had somehow got lodged in the back of the drive. removed the disc and it worked minty.

Found a fat ps2 in the garbage, it kept blowing internal fuses, 2 min worth of googling and was told a rectifier diode was likely broken. Check with a multimeter and lo and behold. I like the internet.

Hah I had a similar thing although it was the keyboard not working. Plugged the ribbon cable back in and it was fine. Eventually it died on me completely but after ~5 years of use.

For a console probably changing the rubber band on a 360 drive or cleaning the pins on the DC power supply.

Got an Xbox from a store that was going to throw it out since it wouldn't read discs.

Turned out since something heavy was dropped on the top, it dented the case and dented the DVD-ROM housing. Stopping the disc from spinning. Bent it back into shape, and it worked just fine.
