The developer behind Ivy the Kiwi and Sonic the Hedgehog hopes that he can one day work with the current platform holders on developing the next console. Yuji Naka, speaking at a London event promoting the upcoming Ivy the Kiwi, says that he’s “hoping to work on Dreamcast 2.” Speaking with CVG, Naka admitted that he misses the days that Sega was at the top. "I do miss those old days when I was heavily involved in hardware making at Sega. I was involved in most of the consoles and controllers that Sega came up with." Naka continued, "It would be ideal if I could become some sort of advisor working with the platform makers in future. I think if I can work really well with the platform makers then it's good for everyone, because I can then come up with totally new games." http://www.industrygamers.com/news/sonic-creator-dreams-of-dreamcast-2/ "If Ivy the Kiwi does well in Europe, then maybe I can make Dreamcast 2," he laughed. "Of course Dreamcast was my baby back at Sega and I want to carry on making good games for the European market and one day I'm hoping it gives me the opportunity to work on Dreamcast 2."
Megalomania: - A psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence. - An obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions.
I thought about posting this but figured it would be like giving hope to a lost cause. Never gonna happen...
There is a slight, very small posibility that segammy might consider reentering the console space, but in that case I doubt they'll use the name Dreamcast2 Too much time has passed, a lot of people dont even know what the first DC was, so from a marketing stance its pointless. Then theres the possibility that it will be a complete piece of shit and they'll use the name to lure the few gamers that know the name and respect it.
What he says is he wouldn't mind being asked to help design the next console for someone as a spiritual successor.
Who else could make a successor to the Dreamcast? And what would be a spiritual successor anyway? now all consoles got online functions just as the DC (and what SegaNet was supposed to be)
I think as Japan is becoming more distant from western taste in games a Japan only console could do well in Japan. One that catered to Japanese tastes.
Dunno, except for the Saturn SEGA was never able to get a sizable marketshare in japan. Besides with the recession going on there being 20 years and getting worse I doubt that a japan-only console would be feasible. GameGear Pocket?
if i was sega and interested in re-entering hardware-wise the market, i would have a talk with microsoft for making an handhelp machine.
not talks, a deal this time. And MS have the money to burn needed to advertise properly, and develop a great hardware. Sega has the experience, franchise and user base to bring on. why not?
Nah, too late, thats what should've happened with the Dreamcast 12 years ago. Right now MS has too much money into the Xbox, and they're trying to get it mobile with WP7
...which means never. Ivy the Kiwi looks very nice game (I haven't tried it yet in order to have a better opinion) but unfortunately few people knows about it and some of them have the opinion that it's a likeable game but nothing more. If it wasn't for XSEED we would never seen this game in english language to begin with since BandaiNamco who published the game in Japan doesn't appreciate the western market as we all know. By the way, he said "if the Ivy the Kiwi does well in Europe" but what about America? Mr Yuji, you need something more than a simple game in order to make a DC2.
