I've played my n64 through the framemeister, it doesn't really get much of an improvement using composite video (the framemeister is /really/ tailored towards rgb devices) and s-video didn't work but that might be because of the crappy third party video cable I got for free.

I plan on modding my n64 for rgb soon whenever I get around to it, in fact I just got some rgb amps in for the project. I expect that it will look incredible over rgb, as every other device I've thrown at it has.

Oh man, I forgot to reply to this question. Anyway, I took a look at the menu settings on the Framemeister and I'm afraid it can't output audio via the phono ports. they are for input only. so the only way to get audio out of this unit is via the HDMI.

I wish I needed that many Framemeisters, it would be a great excuse to have such good service again :)
Mine is still going strong and I've been using it with the old PlayStations for the PSIO project - looks good! Darned good! :D

Edit: Also good to see they pushed 1.08 out to the masses!

That's ok mate ;) For D Terminal, Composite and S-Video, I can route the audio via RCA to my speakers but for Scart, I need to check if there is an adapter that can take the audio out. I have a Joytech device to connects everything together (yeah they're a bit crap) maybe I can get audio out that way and get some Framemeister goodness. Otherwise I'm back to XRGB3 or the SLG in a box, I saw a guy using it the same monitor as me with good result but I know the scaler in there isn't the best thing out there :(

Hehe, all the new Framemeisters are in a nice dry place while my own is sitting under the TV surrounded by RGB cables :)

Could it not be possible to have an option that would tell the Framemeister to display games that switch from 240p to 480i to just stay in 240p mode? Not really sure if that is possible or would work appropriately, but was just a thought.

Good luck with the RGB mod. I believe my N64 board revision is ill-suited for the RGB mod, so I was kinda hoping the Framemeister might still offer improvements via s-video. Is the N64 just an overall tough system to get looking decent on a modern TV?

I don't think so because it's not the output that causes the issue. I run my Framemeister in 720p (looks best for scanlines) and it will stay in that mode no matter what the input resolution is. The problem comes with the upscan unit reading the input resolution then re-encoding it to the output resolution fast enough. I'm not tech master but I guess it would be possible to do instant resolution switches but you'd probably need hardware that is going to cost a hell of a lot more.

With most games the switch in resolution isn't so bad (not that many games do it anyway) with only having to wait a second but I did find that the 2 player mode on Sonic 2 for the Mega Drive just doesn't work. The Framemeister just goes ape shit when trying to display the odd Mega Drive resolution. It could be due to the way the Mega Drive interlaces the image to achieve the high resolution effect.

All high resolution SFC / SNES games work just fine as just high resolution Saturn games. Only Sonic 2's 2 player mode causes issues I've found. Actually, isn't that the only game on the Mega Drive to display a high resolution image?

Wow bulk options. Wish I knew that many people into this kind of thing.

I haven't been following the firmware, what's new to 1.8?

Yep, if anyone can find 8 people you could sell them the Framemeister and keep one for yourself for free!

The changes between 1.7a (what mine is) and 1.8 (the versions I sell) are as follows.

    Display shift to the right.

and that's it! I have no idea what issue that fixes since my 1.7a firmware has no display issue that I can see. The update from 1.6 to 1.7 is massive though.

How would you get component input to work on this? I've been thinking out getting something more high end like this for use with my PSP, but it only outputs video when in game via component.

That is easy. You would use a component to d–terminal cable. I sell them with the Framemeister for 1000yen. So a framemeister with the component to d–terminal cable would cost 39800 yen with EMS shipping included.

By chance do you sell an adapter for using VGA input on it as well (for Dreamcast)?

You can't actually buy a VGA to D-Terminal cable but there are VGA to HDMI boxes however these are not cheap at around 7000 yen. I just use a normal 21pin RGB cabble with my Dreamcast via the Framemeister. If you really want to use the Dreamcast's VGA then maybe ypu'd be better with the XRGB3 (I sell them too, same price as the Framemeister). The only problem with the XRGB3 is that it can only do scanlines over VGA.
