Oh, I forgot to mention! On shmups-forums beharius said that he is working on an adapter for his Hanzo/Kuro VGA adapters that will do 31KHz SCART output via a sync combiner (essentially the setup that I built for myself, just in a professionally-done product). I was considering building a few VGA cables with sync combiners and 31/15KHz switches in a little project box midway and selling them on here and shmups-forums in small volume, but what beharius would make would certainly beat anything I'd do, so now that he's announced that I'll nix that idea. You might want to wait before you get an Extron interface and just pick up beharius's adapter.

There are multiple models of Extron interfaces that should work, just hit up eBay and search for "Extron RGB" and look for any of them that have VGA in on the front and R, G, B, and S (they will probably have H and V too) on the back. Right now I see an RGB 192V for $25 and RGB 580xi for $30. I haven't tested any of these myself personally, but members on shmups-forums said they have been using Extron RGB interfaces like this without problems.

And not all games are compatible with RGB, btw, for example Skies of Arcadia US is not compatible with the RGB SCART cable but is compatible with VGA. The PAL version is the opposite, supporting RGB but not VGA. This is not much of a problem, though, if you have a VGA box that has a 15/31KHz switch like beharius's or if you don't mind soldering in your own (this is very very easy). The advantage to this method is twofold: 1) if the game doesn't support VGA, many of them can be forced into VGA mode by booting up the Dreamcast with the VGA box switched to 15KHz, and when the GD-ROM spins up and makes a small audible 'beep', flick the switch to 31KHz and the game will boot up in VGA mode, or 2) if the game doesn't support VGA even with that, just leave the switch on 15KHz and it will output the normal RGB signal over the VGA connectors anyway, which means that you can do it all using that one VGA box and never have to switch cables. As far as I know, all games that don't support VGA do support RGB, so you should be all set using this method!

Edit: Forgot to mention, games look WAY better in VGA over the RGB SCART on the Framemeister. If I ever accidentally leave 15KHz on, I notice immediately that something is wrong because I can see the Framemeister's deinterlacing in effect. It's DEFINITELY worth upgrading to 480p!

Are you sure about this? I'm pretty sure the last time I tried Skies of Arcaida (US) it would show the title screen, but the VGA would fail once I tried to actually start/resume a gaime.

I don't have a copy on me at the moment but the back of the case says "VGA Box" support.

Is there a sync combiner small enough to fit inside the Dreamcast?

A sync combiner can fit on your fingertip.

Just wanted to drop in for an update!

The replacement cord that was linked from here (thank you!! :highly_amused:) that goes from the xrgb mini to scart female was an issue. Switching this over, I have beautiful RGB modded Nintendo 64 and crisp SNES! I still cannot get my Genesis to work with it.

In an unrelated note, I got my hanzo vga box in as well. It also isn't working, yet, but I'm going to do some more troubleshooting later today after work :) The remote control overlay was a nice find too! Thanks, Assembler Community! Cheers!

Ha--yes, it's been a long process. I have ordered so many duplicates at this point it's crazy!

I bought a scart commander switch. Although the SNES & 64 do work well with the xrgb mini, thanks to my new cable mentioned earlier in this thread, when hooked up to the switch, I have only sound. I'm going to try switching out the power adapter that powers the switch first (think it may be the wrong voltage.) Then, it's either the male to male cable that connects the xrgb mini to the switch, or the switch itself (I hope not--it was a decently expensive, highly reviewed switch!). Either way, at least I've taken a few steps here, after a month of stagnation :encouragement:

Hopefully someone can find this information advantageous!

Who did you get your Genesis cable from? I'm assuming the cable I told you to buy fixed your problems?

Edit: Don't use a switch either. Your wasting time with that. Set something up like this... I leave the scart leads on the side to swap systems. It's setup a little different since I have some new additions since this photo was taken.

I got the genesis cable on eBay--both of the cables I've purchased, actually--and neither works, unfortunately. I've tried it on a model 1, 2, and 3 genesis--no go yet!

Yes, ekek2009--your cable suggestion saved half of the day!

I'm using model 2 genesis/megadrive cables with pure sync and they look great. Just finished programming my crestron system this weekend so I can have proper automatic switching of the my extron rgbhv and generic serial hdmi switchers... contemplating a second xrgb mini for second-zone rgb gaming.
Thanks for the suggestions about composite sync- I'll have to look into implementing this in the dreamcast-- currently have been designing a 12in-12out sync cleaner to put inline with the extron so I don't have to modify all my scart cables with lm1881's, and might roll the sync combiner into that as well.

I'm surprised you don't have one yet with all the Retro gear you have.

    Hi.

I'm thinking of getting one but there is a last point bugging me.
I watched your video and the one from faginrs500.
Both of you are telling there is no input lag.
I trust your words but some various forumer are reporting that Framemeister had some on paper, i mean noticeable one comparing to xrgb2/2+/3.
But there aren't saying they feel it in game, just that input lag is there technically.
I already asked you on your video comment about that but i'm looking for various owner about this point.
And I was thinking this was a good place to ask for, seeing many owner on this thread.
My wish is there is no lag on mini, which seem more compatible from other scaler, and to be sure not investing my money on mini instead of xrgb3 if there is truly lag playing retro games.
