I don't think this has been posted yet... http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/05/03/2113247&from=rss I sure hope so!
Hm... not sure how great that is. It would be great if I didn't already have a 360, but it's apparently a whole system - not just the drive like with HD-DVD. If I were to buy a whole new system just for Blu-Ray, it'd make more sense to get a PS3 so I could play MGS4. I hope they release an external drive too, although historically those never sell very well.
looks pretty cool, but im not particularly crazy for either of them yet. although i have read that blu ray has higher storage amounts per disk, so i guess its better for game devs. nice find
BD on the 360 will not be used for games, period. They wont even use their optional HDD for caching, although most people own a 360 with an HDD!!
There is no proof to this rumour. But, if it did end up being true, it might help stimulate blu-ray sales which will in the end help lower the price of movies on the format. So I hope it is.
i'd prefer an external drive. I don't even have HDMI on my 360 so (my screen does NOT have a Yuv Imput... Hd console, HDtv, but no way to get HD video...)
so, HD-DVD is dead. Is there any collector, who still wants a HD-DVD drive for his 360? They are available for 10Euros on amazon.de today, free shipping starts at 20Euros. Since they have a lot of reduced titles in their catalogue, that amount should be easy to reach (will buy the star trek classic season 1 box myself, 55 Euros for 10 HD-DVDs is not bad at all). Just watch out, that the additional titles are actually offered by amazon themselves and not another shoup "through" amazon, or else extra shipping costs will arise. Oh, and the offer will probably not be valid outside Germany, sorry. Damn region codes are a thing to look out for, too.
So what? does it have VGA? you can always get a VGA cable for your 360, that´s how I connected mine to my beamer.
I could fetch two or three, problem would be inner-european shipping. An insured parcel inside Europe would cost 16 Euros with DHL, you would get a tracking number though. My monetary situation doesn´t allow for a group buy, though. Barcode, Matt, you two live inside Europe, right? So I could send them to you without having to worry about customs. Please tell me until 22:00 tonight whether you want one or not, since I am quite busy with my final exams, and if I shall order one for you I´d rather do it today (don´t know if the offer will be valid tomorrow anyway). The total cost would be 26 Euros including insured shipping (pricing via www.dhl.de), I offer payment via bank transfer or paypal. But first, I´d advise you to try and purchase one off of amazon.de if you already have an amazon account. here´s the link: http://www.amazon.de/Xbox-360-HD-DV...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1209926079&sr=8-1 Don´t know if your preferred method of payment works on the german site, though.
That's not going to work with Blu-Ray in a short while. The DRM stuff will block HD over VGA. I can't see this rumour being more than a new add-on unit. A built in Blu-Ray drive would cost Microsoft too much for just playing movies.
Compared to HDMI or DVI, yes. But it's better than component or any other analog video format that I'm aware of. Most people probably couldn't even tell the difference between HDMI and VGA (unless the display had a poor signal convertor, which many do).
it will also depend on the ADC chip inside Pixel-Matrix based monitors. DVI/HDMI avoids that by correctly mapping whatever's in the frame buffer 1/1.
