Oooo.. Check out what hit yahoo auctions. Two GvG Next kits where listed. No chance in hell would I go after one (unless I won the lotto). They're going for over $1k http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b111738576 http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r68674902 Main diff between this and a normal 256 is the DVD drive is replaced with a HDD. I'm hoping the price of the software kit on this one will fall through the floor as soon as the next GvG game hits arcades soon. GvG (prev one) only came out in 2008 yet I won an auction this morning for only 2,500 (~$30-$35 USD). Software seems to really be undervalued on Yahoo Auctions. =/
:dance:Time to party like it's 2005!!! I got my Gundam Seed Zaft working!! I read online that it might be an issue of the first dips switch being flipped on gundam games but that seem not to be the case. Just popping in the software. The game booted straight into the game. YAY!!!! Sadly since my lunch break is so short, I only got to play 2 missions. =( The game does look awesome playing it on my huge arcade screen. I took some pics and i'll be posting them later tonight. I think I might have to get into work an hour early tomorrow so I can play it. =) Also minor note, it seems my Gundam Assault Survive might have showed up today (got a call from my apt that I had a package).
Excuse my monitor. It's starting to get really old (i've had it for 8ish years but it probably was used in an arcade prior for quite a few years as well, it's a capcom impress 29) http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/5763/zaft01.jpg http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3583/zaft02.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6479/zaft03.jpg I wonder if zaft arcade will unlock more stuff as it's played. At the start there are a lot of gundams selectable but pilots are very few (like 3-4ish). Vids of the PSP version has many more pilots at the start. =/ Also my Gundam Assault Survive did show up today. Sweet!! Will probably play this weekend (would play tonight but I feel wrecked).
Man I think might need to shift to a blog or something since this topic is becoming one sided. =( Question about building a chart. I'm still trying to get going on one. It's just I spend what free time I have playing the gundam games or researching stuff online then building a chart. =P When dealing with games like Gundam Fed vs Zion DX & Z Gundam DX. Would you consider the next game in the series to be a sequel to them or would they be a sequel to the main game? I mean really the DX games are nothing more then expansions/revisions. Sure they do add new stuff to the game but don't really change much from the previous version. ----------------------------------- Anyway final update regarding personal stuff (for a bit). I am swearing off yahoo for the rest of the year now. Today I won a Sys256 PCB but it's going to cost me a lot for it (32,500Y but fees, shipping and etc i'm probably spending more then I should). The only reason to even have a 256 is to run GvG (possibly Zaft 2 since online it sounds like you need a 246 revC or greater to run it). I'm still waiting on my "maybe nonfunctional" Sys246 to show up. I hope it comes soon so I can try to repair and resell it quickly. I'm possibly also thinking of keeping my other 246 that I got on monday. I think i'm going to buy up a JVS I/O pcb & a Power Supply and convert a stick I have at home into a JVS stick (with usb plug) so I can keep one 246 at home to play there (since I don't think i'd play all the gundam arcade games I got at work). ----------------------------------- -- Edit -- Few additional things. I've been playing Gundam Assult Survive the past few nights. While i'm getting more used to the game then I was previously with the demo, I still think I prefer Gundam Battle Universe over this game. I think my biggest issue with the game still is over the connected areas. It makes the game more complicated then it needs to. Maybe there is something i'm missing in the controls but I find it annoying trying to clear out a section to advance and too many enemies keep spawning and coming in via the gates which means I can't advance on to get to another area where I have to clear the room to keep enemies from destroying a supply depot (which if destroyed I loose). It might be so bad if I could maybe order 1 or 2 AI partners to stay behind for any few enemies that might try to go back to an area cleared but I haven't figured out if that's possible or not (doesn't help that in my copy the insert is only in Chinese and not English or both, its the HK version). It also doesn't help that Artdink completely changed up the controls on this one. GGrrrrrrr.....
I got a few more gundam games recently. I put the pictures in my collection post http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28241
Yeah. I like my go. I just wish the PSN game selection was better. I do still have a PSP 2k (blue). Its actually getting more love then my Go at the moment because of all the gundam games i've been playing (I'd kill for namco to just put 1 Gundam Vs game on PSN already....OH. Oh I spent some time with the different gundam games I got. GvG is great fun (i've played it before but back then I didn't get/understand the game) yet it also scares the piss out of me because there is a heavy emphasis on dashes which atm I'm finding to be a pain on my arcade cabinet (too much movement on the sticks to perform a double tap dash, might need to buy new sticks). The DS game I only spent a quick mission on. It's not bad and does the best it can with the DS hardware but it kind of shows why the DS got so few gundam games (too much on the hw i think).
It's off topic but since I know you're watching this thread subbie I thought you might enjoy this article. http://www.boingboing.net/2010/08/10/yakuza-3-review.html
A bit of an update. I played a crap ton of GvG this week and this weekend I finally sat down and played Gundam 00 (DS). GvG is good (plays much faster then Zaft) but after having beaten the game about 5 times already there are a few things that bug me. 1) while the Gundam selection is great the arcade mode it self is pretty meh. There isn't a whole lot of content and every mode ends with you fighting the same Giant Devil Gundam (I think from Gundam G?) which requires the same stupid trick to beat. It really drags the whole game down a **** ton. Other then that the game is fun but I don't think i'll be playing it much longer. I'd hurry up and get my hands on GvGNP but after the $$$ I have to spend to ship the arcade stuff from japan, i'm just tapped out for the year. =( As for Gundam 00, It's not a bad game for what it does. The controls work and it's kind of fun. The game is not anywhere as deep as the PSP Battle games but it still is fine for short burst of play. Sadly though there is another reason short burst are important, the game is supper short. Like my copy had 2 saves with the main game cleared at only 50% and a day count of less then 20 (each day consist of 1 mission, so that's less then 20 levels). While this does not seem too bad yet, Do realize I only played for 2-2.5 hours and I'm already at 45%ish percent. =/ So there is probably at max only 5-6 hours of gameplay here. On the bright side, I think a sequel with nicer graphics would be wicked on the 3DS. The play style of this game lends to being a great setup for 3D with out being too much to focus on (I think GvG type game would be too much to follow in 3D). :033:
=/ I know I said I would stop buying stuff but ebay is a dangerious place. Also so hard to turn down this for such a cheap price. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160469174396&_trkparms=tab%3DBidding&autorefresh=true -edit- Even though I won that, i'm not running out to buy a naomi this year. This clearly is destined for the shelf. =)
Just an update to this topic. I got all my gundam arcade stuff in today (well all 246/256 that I bought, still waiting on Zion DX for naomi to show up). It's all posted in my collection thread. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28241
Hey, in case you haven't noticed, Play-Asia has Gundam Blue Destiny (all 3 Gundam Gaiden games + extras like artwork cards) for the Saturn on sale for $59.90.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm atm taking a break from buying gundam games since I have enough to get through at the moment and I burned a lot of cash recently on Gundam arcade stuff. =)
