I will probably get one, but not at launch. I'm not particularly enticed than any of the supposed launch titles.
Am I the only one on these forums excited for the 3DS? Glad to hear its $250 and not $300 too, and to people saying that its $50 more than a Wii or some bullshit, the Wii sucks, I would rather have my DS lite instead of my Wii.
ASSEMblergames members hate videogames. It's a forum requirement. Mainly for U.S./Canadian purchasers: People who thought the 3DS would be $300 had their head up their ass to begin with and only sought to complain about the made-up price to justify hate for Nintendo. "HERPDERP STRAIGHTUP CURENCY CONVERSION IS ALWAYS RIGHT. 3DS 300 DOLLAR, NINTENDO DOOMED, FUCK NINTENDO" (Disagreeing with the $250 price point isn't a bad thing, though. It's still expensive and deserving of complaint. I'll likely buy it later this year though.) And yeah.. price is always relative. While I don't agree that the Wii sucks, I understand that the intrinsic value of the 3DS to you is a lot more than the Wii is. I expect a lot of good games on board. I also expect a lot of shit. It's a handheld, so it's cheaper to develop for and Nintendo's market segment skews young. Go figure. But It's also new hardware all around.. so perhaps aside from the guaranteed PSP ports, I expect some amazing games that not only push the hardware specs-wise, but utilize the 3D and stylus use in creative ways that make you want to own and hold onto this handheld for time to come. PSP2 will be a welcome addition as well.. and it will compete.. though I am certain that just because it's going to have games that look technically like PS3 titles and have dual analogs, it won't guaranteedly smash the 3DS out of the water. But it should kick ass. I want solid competition. I want to be pissed off at having to buy great games for both devices. >>Remembers what people were saying about the PSP and DS during their first year. >>DS doesn't flinch one bit. >>PSP sales don't eclipse DS sales >>PSP still performs amazingly well.. better than any non-Nintendo handheld. >>Every gamer is a winner because both Sony and Nintendo are winners. >>I love this era of gaming.
Yeah, I don't really understand this hate for the 3DS. It has a new technology that's never been used before in a videogame console (although it's been used in other devices), it has everything that made the DS cool plus better graphics, and it has a ton of really good looking games coming out for it - albeit the best ones probably won't be available at launch. The complaints people are making seem really trivial to me. I think some people are just looking for anything to justify why their team is better.
As the owner of a DSi XL, I find the price atrocious and the lack of games a deal killer. When I bought my DS February 2005 just after it had come out I had Super Mario 64 DS (which was AWESOME (as in shitty) with the addition of extra characters) for upwards of 6-8 months. I won't be buying this one at launch but would happily buy it after it drops in price by at least $70 and has a pretty good library going for it. I don't think the 3D is a gimmick though but if abused like the DS was (using the microphone for stupid things? WHEEEEEE) I could see it becoming annoying fast. I don't anticipate 1st party games doing that however.
Ditto. Kind of surprising, actually. As far as press receptions go it's knocked it out the fucking park, from what I've read, and unlike practically everyone here those people have actually played on one. Bickering about how many hours the battery will last or the finer points of glossy screens vs matte strike me as issues that'll just dissolve once the device gets into people's hands.
Personally I think some people are just trying to over analyze things. Not everybody has to love on a device. Everybody has a set of expectations and with it being a new Nintendo handheld it brings it's own form of hype. If it doesn't meet their expectations, that's their choice as nobody is forcing them to buy it. Just because someone else is overly hyped about a device doesn't discredit someone's else view of the device. I think people are justified in expressing disappointment in the HW or software lineup. Nintendo keeps hyping that they have this amazing line-up but every time it's examined it's not really all that it's cracked up to be. As for me, am I disappointed? Yes but purely for my own internal reasons of Nintendo not pushing hard enough. 3D screen sounds great but I felt they could have done more. Will I be buying one? You bet your ass I will but I most likely will be holding off till the summer when I can get one from japan with out a heavy Anal rape export tax. Why? I import a lot of games and the ones that interest me the most are in japan. I would buy a USA launch unit if not for the ass backwardness of region lock.
I'm sure the same was said about the Game Gear and Nomad. Granted the 3DS has a lot more battery life than both of those combined but 5 hours is still low given Nintendo's historical ability to absolutely rock the battery life. Hence why I'll be waiting a bit to see if a hardware revision improves things like it did with the DS.
oh one thing I should add. while I don't agree with the whole "well for $50 less I can get a wii" argument based on the fact they are different tech and handheld tech is inheriently more expensive. I do see why some argue that. If they play handheld games mostly at home then it begs the question why spend $250 to ply 3ds at home when they can play a wii/360/ps3 if it fills their needs. For me, I like to game on the go when I can (I love the nature of handhelds), so i'm more willing to spend more on buying a higher price handheld then I am a console. I can easily justify $250 on a 3ds better then $200 on a wii (i'd get far more out of the 3ds then the wii).
I hate overpriced, gimmicky video games. So I do not want a 3ds until it proves it isn't gimmicky overpriced junk.
For me i don't mind the price. Yeah i won't be getting a 3DS at launch as the price is high but that's because i either won't have the money for one on release or if i do i just can't justify paying that much when i won't get much use out of the system with the release games that we are getting. I may get one when the price lowers or when more games are released as i like the system from what i've seen although i possibly could wait till the first hardware revision like i did with my DS-Lite.
What isn't a gimmick these days. I think theres so much shit out these days that people find it easier to just label a game or system shit until they actually have a hands on with it.
SO wait one minute. Was there ACTUAL confirmation of region lock from Nintendo? Or was it just "there MIGHT be region lock"? I'm still confused... Source if possible.
According to nintendo there is region locking. What is questionable is if it's publisher controllable or fixed on all games.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. Well, it looks like flash carts got all the justification they need for non-authorized development and use on the 3DS. I fully support their proliferation in this case if it means having to avoid paying an extra $400 to import a Japanese 3DS just to play Japanese games. I'll buy the games.. just not the hardware.
Since my birthday is exactly one month prior to the launch of the 3DS, I will be getting one at launch as a late b'day present. If not for that, I doubt I would have picked it up as soon.
