Quoted for truth: the fact is with an installed base of AT BEST 100k users NOBODY is going to bother making an exclusive game for this thing
Seriously? Glad we can be civil. Yes I understand they are sections I said you might as well have just linked the article. You basically picked the most critical parts of the article. And yes I read the whole thing hence why I recognized your quotes so fast. Ok quote that from the article. Give me a quote from the article referencing this project. All the ouya believers out there do nothing but repeat the same crap ouya itself gives to the press, but developers? they say ouya hasn't tell them shit, not even which android libraries will it support, a BIG detail specially if they want to add controller support Ok source? My understanding is the people at minecraft are excited but haven't made any promises. Seriously it's been a couple of days! The article is critical because there isn't a ton of info. I'm not saying that this is the next big thing but I'm saying it has potential and it's short sighted to shoot it down after a couple of days. Based on one article. Wait for more details. If we are still sitting in this same boat 7 months from now with few details then I'll be inclined to agree. Maybe you should read the article and post some actual facts.
you guys are looking at it from a wrong perspective. The target of the machine is going to be hobby devver, those that play and enjoy freeware games, emulators players for oldschool games. or for games freeded like simtropolis, or open transport tycoon. it's not like "no games will be out for it" because they're going to be free... there's free games on pc for a reason, because some people do thing for passion.
Like hell it is. Sure, there will always be someone, somewhere who will develop a game for it just to do it (Frog Feast comes to mind), but without the support of the developers, the system is doomed to fail. Hobby developers who scoff at the cost of the $99 membership to access and publish to the Xbox Live Indie Games section or those who don't want to pay a fee at all sure are not going to buy more hardware just to develop on an "open platform". Granted, I consider myself a little bit beyond the hobbyist stage, but concepts like this just reek of naivety and people who just want more "free" stuff.
then, consider it as a jailbroken console. you can do all your businnes with it and even buy games for it, all without being banned or anything and getting a complete devkit with it for free.
First, you dont need an ouya to develop for it: is just tegra3 and jellybean, there are many tablets and phones now with it, so all you would have to do is add the controller, when they release the library... Second, the kind of crap that the ouya team is passing as a sure thing really pushes the limit of BS, but that so many fanbois buy into it while treating other game companies like shit for any little detail is amazing. The games on the video are all placeholders, none of those studios are even committed to porting those games let alone make exclusive titles for the thing. If sony pulled that shit with the Vita it would be hailed as the scam of the year. They made a poll asking for games for the ouya and fucking Skyrim is at the top of the list! are they fucking kidding us? Skyrim on a smartphone CPU? maybe in 2 years when Tegra5 comes along, but now? yeah right... And BTW the reason why they do this on ks is because that way they can take preorders (that's what it is, less than 5% pledged less than the $99) without actually having to ever ship the thing. On ks's terms you can easily see they dont have to fulfill shit, there are no legal commitments of any kind so if the whole project goes to hell (development costs, delays, stuff that happens in real life) then you dont get anything, not even a $99 android box. It wouldnt be the first time this happens in ks btw
Why would I want a console, jailbroken or not, that has zero support? Also, this won't be free since you have to buy the hardware. The people this seems to be targeted to are the same people who would just get an Apple TV and hack it (in other words, those who expect everything to be handed to them for free).
zero support? What abou the gazillion of indie and homebrew developers that will flock if the thing has a decent start? oh maybe the latest EA game won't be out for it, sure
Why would any indie developer wanna make games for this when they can just get their games up on GOG or Steam?
What has that got to do with anything? PC has a huge install base, much bigger than this thing will ever have and most people who play indie games do so on PC.
Until this has better install base numbers than the Xbox 360, which many people have already and has a comparable cost to develop of $99 for the first year, there is no theoretical or practical benefit to developers.
Well apparently they screwed up the costs and despite getting 4x what they wanted on ks they are planning to start asking for money again At least thats what they been hinting at
yeah I was pretty skeptical about their price point for both the system and a controller + the specs they're talking about, unless they have some serious developer backing in the background for a cut of profits somewhere
so you guys think this console is not worth it because I pay the 99 already and I can still cancel it before august.
Is ironic how we went from this: To actually giving money to a company making a console that: A- DOESN'T EXISTS (the phantom actually did, they even did 2 different prototypes/models) B- HAS NO GAMES (seriously, have you seen phone games? even the phantom was going to have HL2)
