All right so Minor updates for Ouya can bee found here http://www.kickstarter.com/profile/ouya And Major updates can be found here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console/posts They just updated it with an announcement for a game called Human Element. Good article I thought summed up the pros and cons of Ouya http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-07-13-ouya-panacea-for-console-biz-or-the-next-phantom
GP32.. Now everyone can shut the fuck up and stop looking like a bunch of idiots. Know your gaming history before you start screaming at each other about what can and cannot be done in the industry.
Well, I support this project. Of course it's a little risky spending $99 for a not yet existing product but I honestly don't think the Ouya devs are trying to scam anyone. And even if there won't be any backing by big dev companies this openness paired with the attractive price and the established Android OS could attract lots of indie devs. Good point with the GP32, I also can't help thinking a bit of the Dreamcast here. Despite being a relative commercial failure it became popular for homebrews - because it ate what you threw at it. Finally, to everyone complaining about the Tegra3: Of course it's not the fastest / most optimized CPU out there, but it's definitely fast enough, I guess.
The GP32 is not the best example. Gamepark holdings, the company that spun off from GamePark inc, produced 3 consoles over the course of 6 years or so. We had the GP2X, the Wiz(amazing console, btw), and the Caanoo. Due to the fact that sales were poor, they decided to stop producing consoles. The idea of an open source console is not new and has been played out rather extensively. You can see by the determination of the company and quality of the GamePark Holdings products that they had a solid idea with solid products, but the market just wasn't interested. I believe the total sales of GamePark Holdings products was in the neighborhood of 100-150k units -much greater than the number of people backing oyua. This seemed coherent as I was writing it, but it is late and I make no guarantees.
There's no real incentive to develop on it if you want to make cash, I know I won't be porting anything to it anytime soon.

Count me out of this thing. I'd rather get an Android phone so that I can carry all the games in a single standalone device as well as do much more.
As long as it's primarily dedicated to trusty BUTTON control. Console I'm OK with, traditional handheld I guess too. No stylus/touch/motion nonsense please. I'm of c64/dos heritage! "new gen" user interface design is never going to really agree with me.
The Ouya team just announced in a project update that they've partnered with Square Enix and Final Fantasy 3 is coming to the Ouya in an enhanced version
Not really... not when Final Fantasy III already has its android port on the play market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFIII_GP I guess to spiffy it up a little more and add mappings for the ouya wouldn't be too hard.
What I mean is that Square is hoping that it will sell, they're not really betting on it though as they would on other "proper" consoles with new FF releases.
They've apparently screwed up the manufacturing part of this and probably won't be able to meet any kind of demand. What a surprise, makers of an open source thing can't do the practical part, see also: OpenPandora, Raspberry Pi.
Meanwhile, all I want is a translation of the original with original graphics and sound. Same goes for FFII really.
Have they posted anything about manufacturers? If not, it's pretty easy to assume they can't produce anything at a decent rate if this thing is actually successful. The Ouya is basically just someone's wet "hey let's make our own console" wet dream and I'll believe everything practical about it when they post a source for it.
raspberry? complete BS they have massively incresed production and waiting times are about 2 weeks. yeah source?
