both are feasible the snes cd rom ad on was known to work with a cartdridge on top that would provide boot and space for saving game datas and maybe region protection control.
I wonder if enough information will ever be found to create an emulator? I'm not sure what you would run on the emulator, but it would be interesting to see. (When the need for software to run on the emulator becomes a problem, I'll create something to run on it).
Emulate what? it's just a peripheral. the SYSTEM CART runs on native SNES code, and it just adds support for the SNES-CD. As for the extra bits n tricks the hardware packed , the list is neither conclusive, accurate or complete.
Well, considering the SNES CD backup playing add-ons, I'd say someone has already half-assed that, so why bother? The n64 CD add-ons were sexy though
remember that the snes cd add-on would have had more features, like a massive new fast processor able to give some sort of 3d capabilities a la superFX chip... also without having one and tearing one apart you can't get the info for mulating anything... also add that you have no bios. also as said before, that would be pointless
That's why I said if you want to see a SNES-CD Addon, you'll have to make your own. It can't be THAT hard. Then disasemble some SNES games like Super Castlevania and port them over with enhancements like CD music. Let us know when it's done! =)
Yep, I'll get right on that... Well, right after I add a 32x cdrom drive to the Neo Geo CD, and make it boot faster than an AES unit... Translation: NEVER!
heh, i m getting good at this: Here we see the lovely EXPO (behind closed doors kind of expo) SNES-CD add-on , with a Nintendo Disc inserted PS: the SNES' lighting doesn't match the rest of the 'set' so there's a fair chance this is an edited picture
If you havn't seen these yet, sure it's called The history of the SONY Playstation but we all know how it started.. so it's some SNES stuff in there too iirc. (warning for SONY haters.. contains lots of SONY propaganda ) part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwQPCmNljy0 Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVH_JInE9io Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH1jOfAtbxU
wow, talk about sony propaganda. it's discusting! nice links though PS: This documentary is extremely simplified. The design of the SNES CD-Addon was independant of the SEGA CD development, as it was an option they had looked into even sooner. The release of the FDS should be enough proof that nintendo aimed at cheaper/higher storage expansion devices to sit under its console, and it is for this same reason that they included the EXT. port. Sony was approached because Krazy Ken made the sound-chip for the SNES, and he (ken) also persuaded SONY into doing co-op for the SNES-CD. !!:O Phil Harrison said "Super Nintendo" :O PS: the video states there were 200 SNES/PS combo systems made by 1992. Time for hunting ?
Sony propaganda ahoy ! Bernie Stola shows his lack of knowledge again by stating Thoshiden was a fantastic game? Is he mad? Yakumo
