I've talked a few times in shoutbox about a deal that I hoped was happening with a former game reviewer. After a month++ of going back and forth we finally agreed on items and price. I basically bought whatever he could find in his garage that wasn't retail. The deal was the biggest one I've done and was a big chance to take since I barely knew anything about the included items. I decided to share pictures (no downloads!) of the stuff in the hope that some of you either have it or know about its content (saves me testing time) or have some other info about it. As I test this stuff I will add info to this thread. Unfortunately time does not permit me to spend it gaming these days so don't expect too much yet. Debug xbox in a retail black case. He opened it to look for a modchip but said he couldn't find one. The jury is still out on this one. The kit itself came from Bradygames. I haven't received my volt converter so unable to turn it on yet. Will post more about it when I'm able to test it. Update: Unable to determine if its a debugger or retail. The innards scream retail but the dashboard pictures supplied by seller (as well as this units background story) points to it being an early debug unit. Will be able to test it once I get a voltage converter and US power cable/adapter. Press Xbox Live Beta kit. Installation disc with Revolt XBL on the disc. NFL Fever XBL beta version. Memory card. Memory card with press account. Headset. Some weird dongle thingy. Carry case. Update: The weird dongle was a prototype of the Communicator. Since I'm not a hardware collector it has now been sold to someone who is. Fable: The Lost Chapters BETA and Review version. Age of Empires III Review & The War Chiefs Preview. Age of Mythology Marketing Beta. Mech Commander 2 Betas. Painkiller Xbox Single Player Preview & PC Multiplayer Press Preview. Microsoft Flight Simulator X Beta 2, Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania Review, Allegiance 1.0 Gold and a promo cd-rom with Xbox Skin for Windows Media Player. Rise of Legends Beta 2 & Review discs. Deus Ex Beta Press Demo and preview disc. Update: Did a dir dump of the maps folders of these builds so someone with interest can hopefully compare them to gold/retail. Demo Maps: http://pastebin.com/3UU4wJ1n Preview Maps: http://pastebin.com/hEJzs6ZB Tomb Raider Legend PS2 press demo, Soldier of Fortune v.68 Preview, Phantasy Star Universe PC Multiplayer Beta Update: Tomb Raider Legend was the known "Beta Demo". Soldier of Fortune turned out to be as close to retail as you can get and not a preview at all. Re-Volt silver pressed disc. Unreleased on Xbox. Halo PC Beta discs. Update: CD-R and Halo Beta 2 disc were identical. The CD-R got thrown in the bin. Beta 2 was a Multiplayer Only beta which according to an accompanying readme had 3 maps. Unfortunately the install requires a cd-key but one was not provided. The Marketing Beta is a single player preview disc that has an unfinished installer and doesn't require a cd-key. Unfortunately there is heavy bitrot on the disc and 1/3 of the disc/data is destroyed. Still a lot to find out if one were to extract the files from the installer .cab files.
Very coo. That dongle thing is a beta communicator by the way, @Borman and @XboxSurgeon know more about them than me though.
Yes. That is a prototype communicator intended for a duke. Brother from anutha mutha Sergeant At Arms MoonMoon Pikachu Lover SexRobot Member Who never sleeps XboxPimpFromSoCal Da Thunda From Down Unda Ca$h Money Bitche$ Creep3r
Nifty, make sure to check that HDD and preferably image it for future data recovery BTW EDIT: Oh right its being retail like actually doesn't mean anything as there are debug units liked that for some reason, Check its RAM to see if you are one of those "lucky" folk with a 64MB debug.
Tag didn't work for me, so I was confused about all the links, found me on Creep3r. Sounds about right to be fair. Awesome collection mate, its always sweet to bag a deal like this.
Same tag didn't work bro. Nice find bro you should ask him to ask his friends to see if they have stuff.
What's funny is the Painkiller preview version leaked when the press originally got it, I have a copy of it somewhere too. Nice stuff, lots of PC. What do the stickers say on the bottom of the Xbox? Black debug kits exist, I have a few.
That is the bottom of the xbox. Looks abused. No stickers mentions anything debug related so maybe this is a soft-modded retail with more ram added?
I'm interested in the Windows Media Player XBOX skin, would like to see it. Maybe this: http://www.skinz.org/skin.phtml?skinid=2480
Softmod is what I'm leaning toward. Is there more ram populated on the board? Could always be a debug board bastardised into a retail shell for one reason or another. I'm interested in the communicator myself.
I was under the impression you needed double the ram to run xbox debug discs and according to the guy I bought it from this only plays debugs. I got some time to myself on thursday so I could pop that thing open and take some photos inside, if not sooner. Do I need any special tools to get it open?
You dont need extra ram for the large majority of games, especially for reviewers. Still can be a debug kit. Youll need Torx screwdrivers.
Or just power it on and insert a disc. Edit: You can also swap out the PS with a 220V, buying another Xbox locally may be cheaper than a converter.
I'm afraid my 220V would fry that 110V unit pretty fast if I did that Ordered me a voltage konverter but I also have to hunt down a US power cable as the seller didn't include one Would be a shame waiting 2-3 weeks to test it only because of a damn power cable. If its standard torx then I'm all good Will open up first chance and post some pics. I'm getting curious!
