You win some, you lose some. This is the Halo Marketing Beta. There is a huge mark visible underneath the disc that isn't part of the plastic, but rather a mark on the data layer itself. 1/3 of the data on the disc is fucked.
"Soldier of Fortune v.68 Preview" turned out to be a (near?) retail. Bummer! "Tomb Raider Legend Demo" turned out to be the same as this one: It also appears to have a debug menu somewhere but I just tested with PCSX2 now and it had too much gfx glitches to be playable. Can't see anything on screen. Will to try to find the menu on a Test console.
Just confirming that the press disc contains the same skin as posted here earlier. Oh and some preview videos or launch games.
Hmm, strange, Beta 1.5 had at least four compiled campaign levels, not sure what they're really talking about, unless the "refresh" is a separate build. Either way, very cool that you got your hands on a beta 2 disc. That's too bad, the disc art itself is pretty damn cool.
Pretty nice little haul you got there, really am curious about the Deus Ex press demo in particular. Thanks for the map uploads, will have to scour them when I get a chance to see what they entail.
The size of the disc is far too big for it to be just three MP levels. I'm guessing that the in-game menu has reduced the option to just playing these levels but that in-fact the rest of the beta content is still on the disc. Also, successfully dumped (but still not tested) the following discs: Rise of Nations Beta + Review, Age of Empires Review + War Chiefs Preview, Fable Beta + Review. All discs where as good as 100%. In fact I don't think any of them had ever been taken out of their respective CD paper sleeve.
Fable, 1st photo : "This must be in the drive in order to play"...really ? x'D Or do I miss something here ? Was about to ask for the Soldier of Fortune...too bad it near retail ^^ Anyway, very nice collection.
Disc 1 acts as keydisc + the game has a cd-key as well. Pretty common DRM at the time. Even some console games have keydisc (have a The Darkness X360 build that came with its own keydisc, for instance). There are game specific keydiscs and some very rare dev/publisher specific that works on several games (got some THQ ones for instance). Not sure what the question was, but thats a quick rundown of some type of keydiscs.
Mechwarrior April Beta 1 disc is for the most part unreadable. No scratches on disc, no visible marks. Most likely a burn where the data layer has deteriorated. This is why we dump our discs for future preservation, people! Those old CD-Rs die out on their own so if you haven't, dump those discs! Haven't tried any other discs yet as I tried this Mechwarrior disc on a huge number of drives.
Is that the first Deus Ex, running on the XBox? If so, then wouldn't it be fantastic if the demo could be modified to play the whole game - has anyone played through the demo yet? It's one of the best games ever, and really should have been ported to the XBox.
Highly doubt that it is Xbox port, since date is 2000 on these disks, they're press releases, and console came out in 2001. It is PC most likely.
