No Emerald Coast or Windy Valley? Those definitely fit into my favorites. The music in Windy Valley Act 1 alone makes it worthy.
Sonic 3 Icecap > SA Icecap, the music just makes it (all the classic Sonic games had fantastic music) I never really thought of her as like super sex appeal or anything, but then again I'm a dolt, so there is that. I always played as Gus because I identify most with the aging fat guy than the rest (luckily I still have my hair). I saw it was getting like 6s and 7s before the Wii U bomb dropped (and topped some of the worst of 2014 lists, which isn't fair, since the Rambo game was released last year too)
I don't think Dreamcast games have aged terribly, the nicer looking games still look pretty damn nice to me, especially knowing it's on a console from 1999. I think most systems are like this though, they have their fair share of ugly games and pretty games which seem to stand the test of time. Take the Saturn for example. Robotica looks and runs like ass, and then there's Nights, which looks beautiful. They even gave the Reala model individual fingers, which is amazing for 32 bit games.
I think we can also think that the Dreamcast was the second to last games only console. The PS2 and Xbox both played DVDs (supposedly in 2000 the most popular "game" for the PS2 was The Matrix, on DVD), and all the 7th and 8th gen systems do streaming media and most of them play DVDs and Blu-Rays. Only the Gamecube was just a games console.
Is it bad that Sonic 06 was both the first Sonic game I ever played and the first Xbox 360 game I ever played? I still hold onto it because of the sentimental value.
I liked a lot of the sonic games that came after adventure 1 and 2. But Sonic Colors is just mediocre. Before you guys I kill me I'll say the reasons why: -Terrible level design: Most levels you are jumping from platform to platform with no real challenge. A lot of the running sections felt automatic. Cheap enemy placement. Some levels could be completed under 2 seconds with just jumping to the left or right(since the level could only be properly 'played' with a wasp you didn't have unlocked it at that moment). Water sections made me want to throw the game through the window. -Forgettable Bosses: They were incredible easy with nothing exciting about them. Except the last one. -The music is composed mostly of variations of tropical resort. -The wasps are interesting at first, but they get really old really fast. -You never explore the planets only the eggman construction parts. -Cutscenes are facepalming stupid and useless. Overall the game feels rushed and incomplete compared to let's say Sonic World Adventure(Unleashed).
Everyone hates water levels, especially the ones in Sonic games. I'm looking at you Aquatic Zone from Sonic 2.
I can only cite four games that had genuinely fun water levels: Donkey Kong County, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Brothers 1 & 3. They all had amazing music included free of charge as well.
I love the Super Mario Bros. 1 Water Level theme. It's stuck in my head right now... somebody help my sanity!
That's not really true, because the DC could also play audio CDs, just like the PS1, Saturn, Mega CD, and PC Engine CD-ROM. The PS1 and the Saturn could also play video CDs. The DC also had a karaoke attachment. About Sonic Adventure 2: I have the Sonic 10th Anniversary edition of this game, and I think it would actually be a good game if it weren't for the terrible fucking music. That one rap song that plays in the pumpkin level, whatever it's called - is sooooooooo terrible and annoying, and it plays over and over and over and over and over again, until you want to destroy your ears forever. That, and the emerald collecting levels are really annoying too. Other than that, the gameplay is pretty fun, and the graphics are very good for a DC game. But the music is so bad that it ruins the game for me. I actually prefer the first Sonic Adventure game because it mostly doesn't have any vocals in the music. In fact, the first Sonic Adventure game is really the only good (released) 3D Sonic game, I think. It's still not as good as the Genesis Sonic games, but it's better than pretty much everything that came after it, I think. The original DC version is probably the best one to play, as all of the subsequent versions supposedly had various problems. I also think Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush were pretty good.
The music that plays while you're snowboarding in SA Icecap is just awesome, though. It's probably the entire reason why I like that level. Hydrocity is a good level, and in Aquatic Ruin you can actually avoid going into the water entirely.
Sonic being chased by the Whale lost it's holy shit factor when Sonic 06 DID THE SAME THING. Windy Valley is a fine level and all but Not as much as the two I mentioned. 1. That's why I like the Level too the snowboarding section. 2. Hydrocity has it's rage inducing moments but the music makes it.
Just because Sonic 06 decided to be an unoriginal turd doesn't make SA1 any less cool. I like the whale scene..still looks cool on the Dreamcast. Then again I tend to ignore that Sonic '06 even exists..
How did you ever manage to play any Sonic or Xbox 360 games after that? Like at all? My first Sonic (and Genesis) game was Sonic 2, so I'm spoiled. Though, for you, everything is an improvement! *cough* LABYRINTH ZONE *cough*. In Aquatic Ruin it's pretty easy to avoid the water for the most part.
Very carefully. I couldn't get past the second level. My cousin was only able to beat the 3rd level once... once. I haven't played it in a few years so I may go attempt to find some enjoyment out of it. I have Sonic 2 on the Genesis. It is sooooo much better than Sonic 06! I still suck at Sonic 2 but I am slowly getting better at it. I also have Sonic 1 for the Genesis, which I tend to play more. I wasn't fully aware of other Sonic games and only played more after I heard good things about the Genesis titles and Sonic CD. That game single-handily made me fall in love with the Sonic franchise. This happened about a few years ago when I was first made aware of the Genesis' existence. I'm pretty sure I got it Christmas 06, meaning I was 10 when we got my sister's Xbox 360 (lacks HDMI) and Sonic 06. Funny thing is, I asked for an original Xbox, not a 360. Had no idea the 360 existed at the time. I'm really glad I did get a 360 instead. We also got Call of Duty 3 and another game I can't remember. We got Halo 2 shortly afterwards and my dad pre-ordered Halo 3 later in 07. Those gave me a lot of memories on the 360. Nearly makes me cry when I hear the title screen themes for those games. It brings back so many good memories. Am I the only person who fails to stay out of the water? I suck at this level. I keep falling into the water. Tails drowned me there once. Went for an air bubble during the countdown timer and Tails grabbed it right before I could get it, causing me to drown. Tails is a jerk sometimes... Did you get it repaired and/or cleansed? The cleansing procedure is the similar to the procedure for Windows Vista (destroy the HDD and throw the PC in acid since it is tainted beyond repair). Simply format your HDD and destroy Sonic 06. Proceed to thoroughly clean your Xbox 360 and the HDD. Once this is done, your 360 is cleansed of that dreaded Sonic 06 taint. By the way, Gears of War is awesome! I love that game. That might be the other game we got with the 360 originally.
Most of the "GOOD" games hold up well IMO, some are aging however. But I would say the PS1 had the worst decay rate...i picked up syphon filter 1-3 on the PSN flash sale and NOPE. NOT HAPPENING. MAKE IT STOP. Same with almost every 3D platformer on that console until about 1998/1999, and even then it's spotty.
